Q1

Over to Abeer.ag. --Su_hit (talk) 11:11, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Kolkata, Kolkata, Delhi, Navi Mumbai, Kochi, Bangalore, Ahmadabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, Margao, Kanpur, Chennai, Jamshedpur, Siliguri. What is special about this sequence of Indian cities? This list is not complete. Abeer.ag (talk) 05:53, 30 December 2009 (UTC) Hint: This is taken from a list on Wikipedia, and will become very obvious if I give out the next city on the list. Abeer.ag (talk) 16:00, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

This list contains the cities in the decreasing order of capacity of stadiums in them.. But I think you missed Vishakhapatnam before Margao. The next one would be Mohali. Reference: List_of_stadiums_by_capacity Goutham787 (talk) 21:40, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Yep, you get it. Sorry about the error! Abeer.ag (talk) 04:38, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Q2

A simple question. This service is started on American Independence day in the mid-nineties as a symbol of freedom. What is it and who is its founder? Goutham787 (talk) 07:28, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Dinosaur Interplanetary Gazette--Su_hit (talk) 07:07, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
I can' find an India specific link for this question. If the above answer is indeed correct, may we have another question instead of this please?--Arjun (talk) 07:31, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
I can't find a link to symbol of freedom in the question. So possibly not what Goutham787 is looking for? VasuVR (talk, contribs) 07:46, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Hotmail - commercially launched in 1996 on July 4th by Sabeer Bhatia - as symbol of freedom from ISP based email services. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 07:51, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Yes, that's hotmail.Goutham787 (talk) 07:52, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
Really nice question.--Su_hit (talk) 04:25, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Can someone please take baton of asking next question? Thanks. VasuVR (talk, contribs) 06:05, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Q3

X has got many awards and recognitions for its architecture including a Guinness Record. Its architect also designed another tourist attraction which is often compared to the wonders of the world. The area covered by X and its surrounding gardens is around 25 acres. Identify X. Goutham787 (talk) 08:57, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Akshardham ? --ADI4094 11:32, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

No It's not Akshardham.
BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir London--Arjun (talk) 05:49, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
I was amazed that the above answer almost met the conditions in the question. But it is not what I am expecting. Here X is not compared to seven wonders, but another construction by the same architect is. Goutham787 (talk) 06:23, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Umaid Bhawan Palace?. maybe Lalgarh Palace? ADI4094 08:24, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

I could not find other designs by the architects of above two palaces. Here I give a clue: The Government of India released a postal stamp featuring X in early nineties. Goutham787 (talk) 10:54, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Lotus temple in Delhi, designed by Fariborz Sahba who also designed the The Terraces of the Shrine of the Báb in Haifa in Israel. The temple's House of Worship, the nine surrounding ponds, and the gardens around it comprise 26 acre. The lterraces are a prominent tourist attraction of Israel and is considered by many to be the eighth wonder of the world. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 13:45, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, it's lotus temple. Got into Guinness book of world records in 2001. Govt. of India released a 6.50Rs postal stamp in 1991 with a picture of lotus temple on it. Goutham787 (talk) 15:21, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Q4

Its name is variously described as having originated from that of a Middle-Eastern city or from that of an Eastern Indian town. Its description is found in works of early arab travellers, as well as that of a very famous later European traveller. It finds use in a wide range of fields, from medicine to photography, and is also associated with a very famous figure of a European aristocracy. What is "it"? rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 12:50, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Borax? Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 09:34, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Afraid not the right answer.
clue 1
Although the etymology of the name of this item is said to have origins from an eastern Indian port town, the actual origins of the item itself was from another City in the Eastern part of the sub-continent. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 13:38, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Things going slow with everyone? Long weekend? Lot of work? Time for the next clue please... VasuVR (talk, contribs) 04:24, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Clue 2

This famous portrait of the European royal in question was considered scandalous at the time, because "it" in the portrait was Italian, and not of the nation she was the queen of.

Need further clues I guess. Not able to pinpoint anything so far.--Arjun (talk) 06:11, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Let's move ahead... If the Q remains unanswered in 21 days, then our enthusiasm will go down. --Su_hit (talk) 04:23, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Vasu has it. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 12:03, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Interestingly, there is ambiguity between Calico and Muslin. Calico in U.K. is what people in U.S.A. call Muslin. Goutham787 (talk) 09:11, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

I wouldn't say ambiguity as much as an American misnomer. Muslin's been called Muslin for centuries over the world. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 09:13, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Q13

The name of this place became popular, particularly in the Hindi belt, due to a certain kind of activity of its citizens. However, with advancing technology, that kind of activity is perhaps less now, or at least, the urban India does not care to know if that activity continues to this day. This place, which once had palatial houses of rich businessmen, has again gone down to become a relatively poor and neglected place. Name the place.--Dwaipayan (talk) 23:35, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Jhumri Tilaiya, the residents of this place are famous for sending in requests for songs on Vividh Bharti. --Kaargocult (talk) 04:51, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Q15

X was raised in his early life as a ward of the King of an Indian Princely state after the death of his mother and father. His first film is probably his most famous, earning him the moniker by which he is most commonly referred to. However, It was X's third film that is his first (and perhaps most) critically acclaimed work, and the film went on to win a number of Oscars. Any idea who X might be? rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 22:16, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Sabu Dastagir? --Gurubrahma (talk) 05:47, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Exactly! Sabu Dastagir, real name Selar Sabu, who earned the moniker "Elephant Boy" for his debut role as Toomai in Robert Flaherty's 1937 movie "The Elephant Boy". The movie was Britain's official entry to the Venice Film Festival in 1938. His second movie was The Drummer, which was also the first in Technicolour for London Films. His third film was The Thief of Baghdad, which is considered his best work, and earned a number of Oscars for its crew. He is also acclaimed for his brief but notable supporting role in the 1946 Powell and Pressburger classic Black Narcissus. During World War II, Sabu enrolled in the US Air Force and flew in the Pacific theatre in a number of missions, eventually earning a Distinguished Flying Cross. Here's more if anybody's interested. Over to you now GuruBrahma. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 19:39, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Connect Hindu-German Conspiracy, a first from Indian Postal Service in Independent India and Bommalattam. --Gurubrahma (talk) 07:42, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Any clues. Afraid lost for links, and I wrote the whole HGC article! rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 17:02, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Army postal service. Nana Patekar has worked in army and holds the rank.--Su_hit (talk) 08:03, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Is Nana Patekar currently in news for stuff not related to movies? Though I have used the unisex word actor, I meant an actress. --Gurubrahma (talk) 09:24, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, that seems a tough one. Well, the actor in question is Ranjitha. Yet to find any connection though. If I take Su_hit's cue, Ranjitha was married to an army man, and army postal service by Indian Postal Service can be a link. But it seems too far-fetched!--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:19, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

This might be very (very) far fetched, but here goes. Ranjitha is in news currently for the Swami Nityananda scandal, but the swami is attending the Kumbh Mela right now. The first airmail in the world was sent from Allahabad to Naini, and flew over the Kumbh Mela of the time and was witnessed by devotees. The date of this flight was 18 February 1911. The Ghadar conspiracy was at its conception scheduled for 18th of February, albeit 1915. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 17:48, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Intersting linking. But the question says something of the postal service in "independent" India.--Dwaipayan (talk) 22:11, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
The actress that I am looking for is indeed Ranjitha. However, as you guys have guessed, the connects are too stretched. Connect one of her movies where she is a heroine to the other two. In other words, the question now becomes - Connect Hindu-German Conspiracy, a first from Indian Postal Service in Independent India and a film in which Ranjitha played a heroine. --Gurubrahma (talk) 03:17, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
The connect is Jai Hind.. Respectively, Chempakaraman Pillai, Jai Hind Post-mark and Jai Hind, the Tamil movie.. -- Longhairandabeard (talk) 03:34, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Yep, take it away. --Gurubrahma (talk) 03:52, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

hmmm.. Looks like the puzzle has gotten too cryptic.. Let's talk some more about the Rotatory Ironman.. At first he helped lift a curse, then he found a box belonging to the deceased, finally going to the end of the world.. -- Longhairandabeard (talk) 04:09, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Finally, got it I suppose. Is it Orlando Bloom? Goutham787 (talk) 12:01, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes, it is! The various clues are references to his roles/movies.. He played Legolas (=Greenleaf), an elvish archer who was part of the fellowship of the ring in The Lord of the Rings.. As Will Turner the blacksmith in Pirates of the Caribbean (The Curse of the Black Pearl, The Dead Man's Chest and At World's End), he fell in love with Elizabeth Swann.. Also starred in Elizabethtown, and in Troy as Paris, the mythological prince of Troy who judged three goddesses and stole Helen from Greece, causing a thousand ships to sail.. Rest in the article.. -- Longhairandabeard (talk) 15:18, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Brilliantly scripted, may I say. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 16:50, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Q21

Connect the following: 1. Maharashtra
2. Mathura
3. Kalidasa
4. Mahavira
5. Somadeva Goutham787 (talk) 11:43, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Different form of Prakrit language? Shovon (talk) 14:29, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
Yup. Maharashtri form is origin to Marathi language. Shuraseni is from Mathura. Kalidasa used Magadhi form in his works.. Jains(Mahavira) used Ardhamagadhi. And Somadeva's Kathasaritsagara is derived from Brihatkatha written in Paisachi. Goutham787 (talk) 16:50, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Q22

Guess it'll be an easy one. Identify the person -

"My father was employed with the Indian Rail-roads. I have something in common with a character, penned by Eric Van Lustbader. My biggest complement comes from one of my better known contemporaries who had commented that there was nothing worth in a particular field before me in the country where both of us resided at that point of time." Shovon (talk) 18:13, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Random Guess: Is it Satyendranath Bose? Goutham787 (talk) 20:28, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
Nope. Shovon (talk) 04:35, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
Looks like it's Cliff Richard.. Haven't figured out all the clues though.. -- Longhairandabeard (talk) 07:21, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
That's right Lambebaldariwale. Cliff Richard was born in India as Harry Rodger Webb and shares the same surname as Jason Bourne (David Webb). Bourne series is written by Lustbader these days. John Lenon had once commented, "before Cliff and the Shadows, there had been nothing worth listening to in British music." Baton passes to you. Shovon (talk) 09:09, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
Oh I thought all those g's represented the guitar riff Lennon was working when he uttered those words.. :-p -- Longhairandabeard (talk) 10:15, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Q23

There is an old org in India
That cooperates with ammonia.
Each bag of goods you get
Doubles up as a security net!
It powerz, exchangez and sez, inter alia..
--Longhairandabeard (talk) 17:26, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Is this about Zuari Industries? Goutham787 (talk) 20:59, 24 March 2010 (UTC)
Nope, not Zuari.. But you are on the right track.. -- Longhairandabeard (talk) 06:56, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
The security net is half-Japanese, btw.. And the cross-roads of Gurgaon can lead you to the org.. -- Longhairandabeard (talk) 16:51, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Basant Agro tech, 130 years old ([1]). It also deals in fertilizers (ammonia). there is the san in BaSANt (half japanese). And Basant Kunj (vasant kunj) lies on the crossroads of gurgaon. Kaargocult (talk) 19:24, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Nope, doesn't fit other clues.. It's the largest org of it's kind in the world, actually. -- Longhairandabeard (talk) 20:59, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Should be IFFCO. It is a farmers' cooperative manufacturing fertiliser (ammonia), which has also diversified into insurance and has schemes providing free insurance cover to farmers for each bag of fertiliser purchased (security net). Some other strategic investments include the power sector, NCDEX (exchange) and an SEZ at Nellore. And of course, one of Gurgaon's largest crossroads is known as IFFCO Chowk. Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 09:11, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Yup, IFFCO it is.. And perfectly linked.. The insurance is provided by IFFCO Tokio, hence half-Japanese. Over to you! - Longhairandabeard (talk) 11:03, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Made him sir and got a ring-Oh! for us all!

-- Longhairandabeard (talk) 21:01, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Prafulla Chandra Roy? rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 21:57, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Yup, last q of the round all yours! The company is Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals; Ring-OH is a reference to phenol.. -- Longhairandabeard (talk) 06:06, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

Somebody will have to ask the question for me. Haven't prepared, and dont have time. Sorry. rueben_lys (talk · contribs) 18:38, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Q25

This British lady is famous for other things, but did you know an Indian Swami called her friends superstitious, and a British Knight rejected her written agreement for living with her? -- Longhairandabeard (talk) 06:30, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Annie Beasant? Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 07:11, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Annie Besant is correct.. Swami Dayanand had a fallout with the Theosophical Society over their mystical beliefs.. And the knight is Sir George Bernard Shaw.. - Longhairandabeard (talk) 11:16, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
