The Rangia-Murkongselek section is a railway line connecting Rangiya in Assam and Murkongselek . The metre gauge railway track from Rangia junction to Murkongselek was closed in 2011 for conversion to broad gauge and as on august 2016 the whole section is broad gauge. The entire section is under the jurisdiction of Northeast Frontier Railway.

History

Railway service was established in this section during British rule.

Broad gauge

The 450 km (280 mi) long Rangiya-Murkongselek line was being converted from 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+38 in) wide metre gauge to 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) wide broad gauge broad guage. As of august 2016 the whole section is broad guage and regular train services are there.

Proposed projects

At Sripani the track will be connected to the under construction Bogibeel bridge, allowing connectivity for tracks on both sides of Brahmaputra. A broad gauge railway track is proposed from Missamari to Tawang. The terminal station of the section is expected to be moved from Murkongselek to Parshuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh, via Pasighat and Tezu.
