Robinsons Galleria is a mixed-use complex and shopping mall located at EDSA corner Ortigas Avenue, Mandaluyong City just near SM Megamall. The mall is owned by Robinsons Malls. It was built in 1990 with a total gross floor area of approximately 216,000 m2 (2,330,000 sq ft).

The Mall

Robinsons Galleria Mall is a 5-level shopping mall and a landmark along, EDSA and Ortigas Avenue with more than 400 shops, dining outlets, entertainment facilities and service centers. It is located within a mixed-use complex composed of two high-rise office towers namely the Galleria Corporate Center and the Robinsons-Equitable Tower, the Holiday Inn Manila and Crowne Plaza Manila, the Galleria Regency and the historic EDSA Shrine.

History

Before Robinsons Galleria, This mall used to be an open land owned by SSS at Ortigas CBD. In 1986, the portion of the land facing EDSA became part of the People Power Revolution in where the tanks going to Camp Aguinaldo and Camp Crame were stopped at this spot. In 1987, John Gokongwei bought the large portion of the land from SSS (The Archdiocese of Manila partly purchased the intersection portion of the land). Construction began in mid-1988 and finished in late-1989. The Mall opened in 1990 being the first mall of Robinsons Malls. In 1997, the mall expanded with opening of the North Section of the mall. In 2005, The mall began its 1st Renovation. In 2010 Galleria's 20th Year, The mall began renovating the exteriors and interiors with new elevators and the addition of The Veranda, an al fresco dining partly similar to Greenbelt Mall in Makati.

October 2013 fire

In October 29, 2013 a fire broke out in the toy section in the department store causing the employees who were decorating Christmas lights to flee and also guests in the Holiday Inn to evacuate and move into Crowne Plaza Hotel. The fire which started at that 11pm that night raged for about six hours. The fire was put out and under control by early in the morning of October 31 and the mall was closed for 2 days. The mall reopened at 12nn on November 1, 2013.[1][2]

3rd Redevelopment

A new redevelopment of the mall will take place on 2016-2017. It will be done in 2 phases, the first phase will be done from May to October 2016 while the second phase will start on May 2017. Aside from the major renovations within the mall, the mall veranda will host more service stores related to health and beauty. There will be an upper veranda at the 3rd floor, formerly occupying the sports loop, which will accommodate more dining choices.
