Satavahana University was established in 2008 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, India vide G.O.Ms.No.89 Higher Education (UE.II) Department, Dated: 25-06-2008. The University has its roots in the erstwhile Post Graduate Centre of Osmania and Kakatiya Universities and upgraded in June 2008. The University was named after the Satavahana dynasty that ruled this region.

The University started affiliating UG and PG colleges of Karimnagar district in the year 2010. Presently there are 191 colleges affiliated to Satavahana University offering various UG, PG and Professional courses. There are three campuses, the main campus houses the Administrative Block, University College of Arts, Social Science & Commerce and University College of Science. A second campus is located near LMD of Karimnagar and hosting University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The third one is at Godavarikhani town and hosting University Post Graduate College. The University Administration started functioning from the main campus from September – 2012.

Satavahana is the only University catering to the higher education needs in Karimnagar district of Telangana State and offering 22 PG, 03 Professional UG courses and combinations in various UG courses (BA, B.Com. and B.Sc.) in its constituent and affiliated colleges. The University Constituent Colleges are presently offering the Programmes such as B.Pharmacy, M.A. (Economics, English, Sociology, Telugu and Urdu), MBA, M.Com. and M.Sc. (Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Food Science & Technology, Instrumentation Physics and Mathematics).

The main campus is located in a beautiful and sprawling 200 acres of forest-like-campus right in Karimnagar city. A master layout for the entire campus has been prepared reflecting the development to come for the next 5 to 10 years. As such the campus is surrounded by a beautiful rock wall and imposing main gate complex and the campus has become walker’s paradise. The flora and fauna add to extra environmental beauty and at present there are about 100 peacocks and many rabbits crisscrossing the roads.

The University is dedicated for the upliftment of higher education for rural girls and economically and socially deprived youth belonging to SC, ST and OBC sections of rural areas of Karimnagar in Northern Telangana region of Telangana State. About 93% of the students are from these sections among them the total enrolment during 2015 – 2016. The Satavahana University was established in 2008 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, India.
