Shubhangi Atre (born 11 April 1981)[1] is an Indian television actress. She is currently playing the role Angoori in a comedy series Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!.[2]

Personal life

Atre is married to Piyush Poorey with a daughter named Ashi. She is from Indore and currently staying in Mumbai. She has a degree of MBA.[3]

Her residence is in Dahisar Mumbai and she walks for 40 minutes to reach Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai sets, located in Naigaon. She gets up early in the morning and performs pooja (prayer) and then cooks lunch for herself. Her favorite food in lunch is daal, roti and sabzi. She also packs almonds, fruits and rusk to eat on set. She always reach first on set of Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai!.[4] She is a music lover.[5] She is a fan of Salman Khan.[6]

Atre catchphrase "Sahi Pakade Hain" (You Caught It Right) from her serial Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai! became popular.[7][8] About the catchphrase, Atre told that:

Whenever someone says something correct, I automatically say this line (Sahi Pakade Hain) whether I am at home or with friends.[9]

Career

Before coming to the TV industry, Atre shot for a shampoo brand (regional product). It was a ad for print.[10]

After marriage, she started her acting career in 2006, when producer Ekta Kapoor gave her role in Kasautii Zindagii Kay.[11][12] She then seen in Kasturi as lead role.[13] After that, she played a negative character in Havan.[14] On April 2016,[12] Atre replaced Shilpa Shinde as Angoori Bhabhi in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! on &TV and also portrayed the role of Devsena in Adhuri Kahaani Hamari on &TV.[15] She gained the popularity from her sitcom Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai!.[11]

Shilpa Shinde who was playing the Angoori Bhabi character, made an allegation that Atre is coping her.[16] To clarify the allegation of Shinde, Atre said that she was coping Angoori's character not Shinde's character.[17] Atre also said:

People tell me that when they close their eyes and picture Angoori bhabhi, they think of me and say, ‘Hum bhool gaye pehle kaun thi’ — and that for me is the biggest compliment.[18]

After Chidiyaghar, Atre has replaced Shinde for the second time in her career.[19] About picking the offer to do comedy serial Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, Atre said:

Honestly, at that point, I had three offers, two were brand new shows and one was Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai!. Even my husband, who always supports me, felt that I shouldn’t be taking up a show where I was replacing someone. But I used to watch it and I loved it. I think it was a game-changer, a comedy that had adult content but was not vulgar.[20]

For the role of Angoori Bhabi in sitcom Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, Atre received mixed reviews from audiences.[21] The Times of India praised Shubhangi Atre as 'Angoori Bhabi' by saying that she is doing a fantastic work.[22]
