Smoky Lake County is a municipal district in north-eastern Alberta, Canada.

It is located in Census Division 12. The county seat is in the Town of Smoky Lake.

Demographics

As a census subdivision in the 2011 Census, Smoky Lake County had a population of 3,910 living in 1,481 of its 1,920 total dwellings, a 16.5% change from its 2006 population of 3,357. This includes the population of two Métis settlements, Buffalo Lake (492) and Kikino (959),[3] located within the census subdivision that are municipalities independent of Smoky Lake County.[4] With a land area of 3,412.81 km2 (1,317.69 sq mi), it had a population density of 1.1/km2 (3.0/sq mi) in 2011.[2] As a municipality in the 2011 Census, Smoky Lake County had a population of 2,459 without the two Métis settlements.[5]

In 2006, Smoky Lake County had a population of 3,357 living in 1,739 dwellings, a -24.0% increase from 2001. The countyhas a land area of 3,412.81 km2 (1,317.69 sq mi) and a population density of 1.0/km2 (2.6/sq mi).[6] As a municipality in the 2006 Census, Smoky Lake County had a population of 2,716 without the two Métis settlements.[7]

In 2001, the municipal district has a population of 4,417 in 2,104 dwellings, a 0.8% increase from 1996. On a surface of 3,412.66 km² it has a density of 1.3 inhabitants/km².[8] As a municipality in the 2001 Census, Smoky Lake County had a population of 2,773 without the two Métis settlements.[9]
