Somos tú y yo: un nuevo día is an Venezuelan teen drama series based on the 1978 film Grease, directed by Randal Kleiser, which in turn is based on the musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey 1971 of the same name. The series stars Sheryl Rubio and Víctor Drija.[2] It debuted in its country of origin, Latin America and Europe on August 17, 2009.[3][4]

Plot

Somos tú y yo, un nuevo día revolves around in the 50s, and where the guys fighting for popularity in the Granadillo Academy. Sheryl Sanchez (Sheryl Rubio) is the leader of the group 'Las Reinas' the most beautiful girls and popular Academy, where he meets Victor Rodriguez (Victor Drija) her ex-boyfriend, who left a couple of years ago and never he came back. With this, Aran Gutierrez (Aran de las Casas), leader of 'Los Tigres' takes advantage to win Sheryl, while Rosmery Rivas (Rosmeri Marval), a very good mechanics, falls in love with Victor and is definitely separate it from Sheryl. Adventure, romance, fun, challenges and confrontations are carried out in this story.[5]

Production

In 2008, once commissioned by the company the pilot episode, they announced that the protagonists of the series would be Sheryl Rubio and Victor Drija.[6] The pilot was written and directed by Vladimir Perez at the beginning of the end of 2008 and accepted by Boomerang and Venevisión in early 2009.[7] The series was based on the American film, Grease,[8] directed by Randal Kleiser and starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.[9][10] The film is in turn inspired by the eponymous musical 1972 created by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey and released for the first time in 1971, at the Kingston Mines Theatre in Chicago, a theater located in a former tram depot.[11][12]

The script of the series was adapted by writer Vladimir Perez.[13] Filming of the series began on March 5, 2009 and ended on March 21. Its official premiere was on August 22, 2009 by Venevisión in Venezuela,[14] while in Latin America and Spain it was released officially on November 17, 2009 by the Boomerang.[15] As of December 1, 2009, by the excellent ratings and wide acceptance by the public, the series began to be broadcast Monday through Friday. The series premiered in addition to its chain by Boomerang, was broadcast airwaves in Colombia by Caracol Televisión, in Mexico by Canal 34, in Ecuador by TC Televisión and Antena Latina in Dominican Republic.[16] The series was broadcast in more than 30 countries including Europe and Asia.[17]

Reception

Somos tú y yo: un nuevo día has received mostly favorable reviews. Review aggregator site Metacritic has given the season a "generally favorable" score of 61 out of 100, based on nine critics.[18] On another review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 69% rating with an average rating of 6.2 out of 10, based on thirteen reviews.[19]
