Current Club[edit]

Courtois may have been transferred to Madrid but this official link says otherwise. Avenue X at Cicero (talk) 17:05, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request from Avenue X at Cicero, 25 July 2011[edit]

From this official link, you will see that considering Courtois is a Chelsea player, he would have been listed with the two other players on loan. You can also see from Madrid's Official website that Courtois is not their player. Considering Chelsea did sign him, he would have made the Main Page of Chelsea's website. As you can see from one of my edit-summs, it'll read Still a Genk player. According to Chelsea's website , AVB says 'It is still a couple of days until we can confirm agreement between all three parties'.) The matter regarding Courtois' current club has really gone out of hands 'cause of some "die-hard" Chelsea fans trying to prove their clubs signings, we really need an admin to analyze all the facts. Hope you'll understand. Thank You. Avenue X at Cicero (talk) 10:05, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I 100% agree, the player is a Racing Genk player, that is a fact and as wikipedia is meant to deal in facts, Courtois should not be listed as a Chelsea player on loan at Atletico. I have sources to prove this point. The information on the Thibaut Courtois page is incorrect, the page should be changed asap. Mythical Curse (talk) 14:32, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

'current club has really gone out of hands 'cause of some "die-hard" Chelsea fans trying to prove their clubs signings' That doesn't matter, I am a big Chelsea fan myself, but i don't try and 'prove my clubs signings'. All that matters is facts and Courtois is still a Racing Genk player and has not yet signed for Chelsea. The page should show Thibaut Courtois as still being a Racing Genk player, otherwise it is simple incorrect. Mythical Curse (talk) 19:31, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the stern comment, Mythical Curse, I'm a CFC fan too. But its just that Shihan07 is trying to desperately list Courtois as a CFC player, which is against facts. I faced the same situation at Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing recently (with the latter causing the removal of my Rl. rights). I was really angry that WP was being used for listing Courtois as a CFC player, even though he technically isn't. BTW...isn't it amazing that Courtois is said to be playing for Madrid via Chelsea even though he only has a section in the article for Genk? Avenue X at Cicero (talk) 09:29, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've been asked to have a look at this. As I see it, he's currently still at Genk. He's almost at Chelsea, but there's nothing on their site that says he's signed (it's still a couple of days away. Consequently, he's not at Athletico. Genk imply he's left them, but it's a press release, so doesn't talk about whether he's still on their books (and the translation is garbled [1]). If you're all happy with this, I'll make the changes and unprotect the article. GedUK  11:54, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy with semi-protection as long as Shihan07 promises not to change it to Athletico/Chelsea without CFC confirming the transfer. Avenue X at Cicero (talk) 12:12, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, he has just been presented by Atletico Madrid, see the Atletico Madrid official web page. Pelotastalk|contribs 14:45, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK, that's really confusing. That release doesn't even mention Chelsea or loan. We'll have to wait to see something from CFC too. GedUK  16:32, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK, there's a Chelsea release now, so I've updated the lead and cited it. I think it's safe to unprotect now. GedUK  16:46, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well I guess everyone's happy now, but Courtois was officially an Atletico player last Friday 22nd, as you can see confirmed here: http://www.clubatleticodemadrid.com/Web/noticia/template_noticia/noticia1.php?idnoticia=26051&previo=0. Also this page: http://clubatleticodemadrid.com/en/primerequipo/jugadores.asp hasn't been updated in over a year, so don't use that as a source. And also, NEVER refer to Atlético as 'Madrid', because that is a huge insult. If that's not enough for you, he was TRAINING on Sunday 24th http://www.clubatleticodemadrid.com/Web/noticia/template_noticia/noticia1.php?idnoticia=26121&previo=1. He would have obviously been a Chelsea player by then. All you people insisting to keep him as a Genk player, how about doing some more research? People moaning 'Oh but Chelsea hadn't confirmed it', they are not the most important club in the world, if he was allowed to train then I think it's pretty blatant that he was no longer a Genk player. I am still waiting for an apology from that Mythical Curse guy who was insistent on keeping the page with wrong info. It's not my fault Chelsea were slow to confirm the deal, but luckily while the page was protected, the correct information was displayed. I await your explanations, thanks. --Summerfield29 (talk) 23:41, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In my knowledge, Beckham was "pictured" TRAINING with Arsenal last year because he was preparing for an international match. Did that make Becks a temporary Arsenal player?
Also, how I refer to Athletico Madrid should be no concern for you.
"how bout doing more research?" I guess your blatant accusation falls under original research policy of Wiki. Maybe, it says right below the editing line Content that violates any copyrights will be deleted. Encyclopedic content must be verifiable.
they are not the most important club in the world I still can't figure how this featured over here.
if he was allowed to train then I think it's pretty blatant that he was no longer a Genk player. What if he was on trial? Does it make him leave Genk then?
I am still waiting for an apology from that Mythical Curse guy who was insistent on keeping the page with wrong info. I hope you never receive an apology, because Mythical Curse has a firm(er) grasp on WikiPolicy than you do.
It's not my fault Chelsea were slow to confirm the deal, but luckily while the page was protected, the correct information was displayed. While the page was protected, unfortunately the wrong info was displayed, because guys like you think Wiki is all about being up-to-date, while guys like me know Wiki is all about being reliable and verifiable and your "predictions" were not verifiable.
Hope your "awaited explanations" are answered. Regards. Avenue X at Cicero (talk) 07:32, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
He can't have been an Athletico player, officially, until the transfer to Chelsea had been completed. Yes, he may well have been training with them, but that's just unofficial, a gentleman's agreement between the two/three clubs. We can't know when he officially left Genk; we can only assume from the sources that it was directly when he signed for Chelsea. When he signed for Chelsea, then he signed for Athletico. It's impossible for it to have happened in the way you think it did; a player can't be signed for more than one club at a time. He still isn't officially an Athletico player, he's a Chelsea player on loan.
Carrying this argument on is unnecessary and only serves to wind people up. Leave it be. GedUK  12:45, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You both seem to be trying your best now to cover your tracks, seriously, your explanations are amazingly far-fetched. "There was a gentleman's agreement" seriously how likely is that? You can't even admit that you were wrong. Atletico confirmed it on Friday, and I think that's a pretty clear indication that he's been an Atletico player since Friday. "How I refer to Athletico should be no concern to you", honestly your arrogance is staggering. It's not "Madrid", and it's certainly not "Athletico", it's ATLÉTICO DE MADRID, not only should you do some research, but you should learn to fucking read as well. You've proved right there you know nothing about European football. And no, Chelsea are not any more important than Atletico, the deal was confirmed by us on Friday (clearly stating from CHELSEA and not Genk), and luckily the correct information has been displayed since then, whatever you may think. Chelsea announced the deal around 4.30pm yesterday, yet he was unveiled nearly 4 hours before that at the Vicente Calderon, and had been training for the past three previous days. Are you really telling me that that was all as a Genk player? Honestly, that's laughable... --82.32.209.70 (talk) 16:09, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Language[edit]

Shouldn't there be a dutch pronounciation as he is most likely a Flemish person, right? At least for Mignolet it was handled this way: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Mignolet — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.32.241.11 (talk) 18:33, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

His name is spoken in a "French way", so I don't see anything wrong in that. And the official languages of his country are: Dutch, French and German. MYS77 19:26, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
User:MYS77: There may be a Dutch vernacular to saying his name. If you look at Mauricio Pochettino, his name has pronunciation in Spanish (official language of Argentina) and Italian (origin of his surname). Where Courtois was born, Dutch predominates . The request is perfectly acceptable. '''tAD''' (talk) 20:45, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2016-17 Chelsea season: Found one incorrect spelling of the name "Sigurdsson". This needs to be changed to Sigurðsson as stated in the article.

Also add {{pp-semi}} to the article as well, as I thought I was permitted to make this change myself.

Courtois transfer to Real Madrid[edit]

As of August 8th, 2018, confirmed by both Chelsea and Real Madrid, Thibaut Courtois is a Real Madrid player. The following is the official announcement of the signing on the RM website: https://www.realmadrid.com/en/news/2018/08/official-announcement-thibaut-courtois. Courtois' page still shows him as a Chelsea player which is incorrect. More sources can be provided if needed. He is to be presented on August 9th, 2018 followed by him walking onto the pitch wearing his RM jersey and a press conference. X2bechaos (talk) 05:50, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This is a complete joke. He has already signed his contract, what are you waiting for mighty editors? He's due to be presented in a few minutes. If Kepa is already a chelsea goalkeeper then Courtois should also be a Real Madrid keeper. A complete disgrace for Wikipedia.
It's a strange one. Real Madrid officially announced him yesterday but the medical is today. Presumably the transfer is contingent on the medical being successful, so I guess that's why the admins are holding back, despite the announcement. In a couple of hours it should be a moot discussion anyway. Laanders (talk) 11:20, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
