The result of the move request was: no consensus. Some support, some opposition, but it doesn’t appear to be the WP:COMMONNAME. (non-admin closure) - 🔥𝑰𝒍𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒆 (𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌)🔥 01:36, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2023 Mangu violenceMangu massacre – The year isn't needed & violence is too vague Jim 2 Michael (talk) 15:26, 18 June 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. - 🔥𝑰𝒍𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒆 (𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌)🔥 01:15, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The article switches between singular & plural. Why would the year be needed & why would killings be a better word than massacre(s)? Jim 2 Michael (talk) 14:39, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jim 2 Michael @In ictu oculi: This is not the only case of mass violence in Mangu LGA to occur this year- Two days ago some 14 residents of Bwai and Chisu communities, may they rest in peace, were killed in an attack by Fulani herders. The title should be updated to include "May 2023" as a specifier.[1][2] Dunutubble (talk) (Contributions) 15:05, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Since that has happened, I think May 2023 Mangu massacres would be the best title. It easily fits the description of massacre, which is more precise than killings or attacks, although it appears that attacks is the word most commonly used by the media to describe what happened. Support May 2023 Mangu massacres as a title. Despite the more common name of violence, several Nigerian sources call the events a massacre (Premium Times, Daily Trust, TVC News), so the term is apt. Jebiguess (talk) 21:50, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose: By definition and English meaning, it is clearly a massacre. But for some reasons, most reliable sources in Nigeria refer to it as Mangu killings or Mangu crisis. The present title Mangu violence is still more used than massacre. I am unsure if there is a Wikipedia guideline that mandates the use of massacre even when it is not the common term used by sources to describe events. I like the year, I think it adds more context to the article but since there isn't a need for such disambiguation I think Wikipedia guideline requires it to be removed. it can be a soft redirect.
