I'll take this one and go through it in the next few days - it is very short for a GAN (would be in the 30 smallest GAs if promoted as is), but that of course does not proclude it from being a GA as it appears there is legitimately not a lot known about Banakati. @HistoryofIran: given that there are only three sources, two of which are paywalled, would you be willing to email me copies (PDFs/whatever) of those two sources to help with the review? Thanks! eviolite (talk) 03:16, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. I'll send it in a bit. --HistoryofIran (talk) 16:51, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the wait. I've sent you mail. --HistoryofIran (talk) 00:09, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@HistoryofIran: In case you didn't see, I have replied to your email. eviolite (talk) 02:17, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for continually delaying this, finally got the time and energy to review.

  • Sourcing looks good.
  • Not sure if the image is pertinent to the article - it illustrates the cover of a work that one of Banakati's work was translated into, but I don't really know if it's helpful. Then again there is only one image, and there are likely not many options, so I'm not really sure..
  • Who is al-Baghdadi? There seem to be many people with that surname.
    I've unfortunately no idea. I tried to look it up, but couldn't find out who it was. --HistoryofIran (talk) 11:15, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    @HistoryofIran: does the encylopedia page have a bibliography page anywhere that would indicate what work it's from?
  • I'm not sure if the parenthesized prose list is the best format, but I don't really know if there's anything better. If the foramt is kept though the ; before (1) should be a :.
  • The book ends with the start of the reign of the last Ilkhanid ruler, Abu Sa'id Bahadur Khan (r. 1316–1335). - I'm not seeing where this is stated.
"His general history from Adam to the beginning of the reign of the il-khan Abū Saʿīd (q.v.), the Rawżat ūli’l-albāb fī maʿrefat al-tawārīḵ (or fī tawārīḵ al-akāber) wa’l-ansāb, was completed on 25 Šawwāl 717/31 December 1317 (Rawżat, p. 2; cf. p. 479, with the month alone); although toward the end of the work he refers to Abū Saʿīd’s enthronement at Solṭānīya in Rabīʿ II, 718/June, 1318 (p. 478), this event is known to have taken place in the previous year." --HistoryofIran (talk) 14:47, 23 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • "last bit" sounds a bit informal, consider "last portion"
  • There may be minor close paraphrasing issues as the sentences are structured and arranged similarly to the Encyclopedia of Islam/Brill source, but I think it's fine.
  • "eight part" -> "eighth part"
  • It would be helpful to also note his position in the court in the lead.

That's it for the prose review, it's generally written quite well. However, the article is quite short and I believe there are some small ways it can be expanded, after doing some searching myself (there really is not much information at least online)... it would be great if there could be more info on his early life or legacy, but I don't know if there's any info on that at all.

  • Iranica says that Dawlatshah described him as "learned and accomplished", and the last paragraph of the Brill source says that the work was considered to be the most informative on China, India, the Jews, and the Byzantines by him.. could incorporate this as well.
  • I found this source with detailed info on the work, but no idea if it's reliable or not.. --HistoryofIran (talk) 14:25, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • From what I could find, it doesn't seem reliable unfortunately.
  • This book mentions Banakati and has some commentary on his work. (It also seems malik al-al-shuʿarāʾ  can be translated multiple ways, also as "king" or "prince" of poets? Not really sure.)

That's all of my comments. @HistoryofIran: Placing on hold for now. eviolite (talk) 06:15, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Also, while looking for info on al-Baghdadi, I found [ https://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/handle/2027.42/133445/ybrack_1.pdf this PhD dissertation] (which appears to have been approved and is cited several times, so reliable) that talks about his work including poems, on page 171-176 (PDF pages 186-191, section called "The Mahdī Khan and the Poet of Banākat"), which should be helpful for discussing his other work. eviolite (talk) 03:48, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HistoryofIran, the nomination has been on hold for just under 7 days now and the article hasn't been edited in 6. I of course am willing to continue holding this as the issues I think are not too major, but just pinging as a reminder in case you forgot about it. eviolite (talk) 22:31, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I've been heavily ill with covid this past week. Although I am no longer ill, I am still very unmotivated and tired. I'm not sure how long this is gonna last. --HistoryofIran (talk) 22:39, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I completely understand; take your time. eviolite (talk) 23:31, 15 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @HistoryofIran:, hope you're doing well. I see it's been over a week without changes and there are still some unresolved comments and possibilities to expand - I'd like to finish this up as soon as possible given it's been almost a month since I took it up (though a large portion of that is my fault) and the GAN backlog drive is ending as well. eviolite (talk) 01:19, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I understand, would it be possible to put the deadline at Monday? Hopefully I can get it done by then. --HistoryofIran (talk) 01:32, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@HistoryofIran: Sure, that'd be fine. Thanks! eviolite (talk) 01:42, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Eviolite: I think I have adressed everything, thoughts? --HistoryofIran (talk) 15:38, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@HistoryofIran: Thanks. After a few copyedits which I have done, I am satisfied enough to promote this to GA status; great work! eviolite (talk) 02:58, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
