2.0b patch?

What is 2.0b patch? As i know the final one is 2.0a (http://aok.heavengames.com/), someone have download link and/or information about this patch? Maybe it's something like unofficial patches for The Conquerors (1.0d, 1.0e and 1.0e Final) but why no one write about this and place as official patch?

Mongolian Wonder

Zolotaya Orda/Golden Horde/Złota Orda is really Wonder of Mongols? As i know this is not building, but Mongolian country/state/organisation, etc. Better option is write Genghis Khan Tent/Genghis Khan Personal Tent (like here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=777Du5gS64M in 03:34, yes i know other Wonders in this movie can be incorrect). Quality of the article

While this article is decent enough, I feel it needs a bit of editing for style, so as to make reading it more pleasant. Also, this game is a very popular one, played by many people. Maybe a Sales paragraph might be in order, so as to reflect the impact it has had on the gaming industry and gamers worldwide? This game was one of the landmark games for the Strategy genre... Multiplayer

The Zone was a popular place to play, with over 1000 people playing at a time.

The Zone probably had 30-80 thousand players playing at the same time. AoK had 2-3 thousand at its max and Counquers had even more.

After a hiatus, Gamespy was proclaimed as the official successor of the Microsoft Zone, however it was soon realized that not many players decided to join Gamespy. Instead two prominent websites were advertised in the Zone game rooms: Empires Legacy, and Gamepark.

No, Ensemble Studios decided to go with GameSpy after Empires Legacy missed their deadline (19 June, the date Zone closed). Empires Legacy contacted Ensemble Studios through Age of Empires III.

After a huge argument between EmpiresLegacy.com and Gamepark.eu, GamePark had created a better zone for players, and so by player choice EmpiresLegacy redirected to GamePark after they had lost.

This is wrong too. Empires Legacy was closed because GM_Leader_L450 (the guy paying for the server) got fed up with EL never finishing their client. When it closed they remade www.empireslegacy.com to a vote. The vote was about what site Empires Legacy should link to which GamePark won.

Around the end of 2006, Gamepark had about 100 players playing Age of Kings, equaling the MSN Gaming Zone in popularity; Microsoft though, still supports Gamespy. Currently [which date is this?], there are over 100 Age of King players playing in IGZones.com due to its recent popularity and the Age of Kings players have stopped going to GamePark.

I never used GamePark but 100 players is not much and not equaling to Zone. So far no AoE Gaming Server can be compared to Zone. Zone was the starting point and is still the site AoK links to (if you start the game on your computer). IGZ got more then 100 players playing. www.igzones.com

There is also a direct IP multiplayer

It needs to be clear that IP games are played through your AoK game on your computer and not a Client. This is what GameSpy uses which is a major part why some people are switching to IGZ.

AoK Heaven

There's a lot of advertisements for AoK Heaven which from what I know is an AoC site and I've never heard any AoK CS players refer to it nor use it. Have heard about RM and AoC players using it but that's it.

I did view it a bit but didn't see any aok parts.

AoE2 Strategy Center is a place to find strategies and guides to use in Age of Empires 2. Guides are mainly intended to use in Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors but some may also be able to use in the Age of Kings.

Would be good if someone removed all these AoC links and all the AoC text in the AoK section. AoK Heaven is not an AoK Site, nor is AoE2 Strategy Center.

Aachen Cathedral?

It's actually just weird. Try opening the scenario editor, and put down a British wonder right next to the Cathedral. You might note that the British wonder is simply a rearrangement of portions of the Cathedral building. The Cathedral building looks strikingly similar to the Aachen Cathedral (also odd, as the Cathedral building is never used for the Aachen cathedral in the campaigns). Actually, neither "Germany" nor "France" as we know them today really existed back then; Karl was a Frankish monarch. And it gets more interesting: if you look here [1], you'll see the cathedral identified more accurately as the Frankish wonder. Patch 1

I changed it to show the bugs that seriously affected game play, not bothering to list all of them. Trash talking, spam bots, and immaturity on the zone

Would this be appropriate for the article? Perhaps it was common on all Zone hosted games, and elsewhere. I on occasion ended up in a game with some immature imbecile who started using the most vulgar language imaginable to insult my mother, among other things. In the open chats in the Zone rooms where people go to find others to join a game with, more often than not some pervert would be screaming some indecency, or a spam bot would automatically repeat the same advertisement or harassing message. There was no way to report things to a moderator and have the person banned. Since it was a common experience for those playing the game the article is talking about, I was thinking perhaps it'd belong in the article, for historical purposes. What does everyone think? I reverted edit that erased patch information

I believe the patch information is valid for an encyclopedic article, since it was a major factor in this game's history. It provides details of the game when first released, a reason why there were many unhappy players, and how it evolved over time. Also, the reason given for erasing it, could be used to wipe out most of the article. So, I reverted that edit. Dream Focus (talk) 06:23, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

'Burning Oil' my left foot! =

This is in the article: "Towers are equipped with the ability to fire arrows and drop burning oil on unfriendly units, and are often used in conjunction with the wall in defense mechanisms."

Compatability problems and 'burning oil'

The 'toxic grass' and the graphic issues with grass, trees and water is very common on most PCs, regardless of operating system. It sometimes occurs if you play on an older system or if the graphic drivers are not installed or outdated ones are installed. It can also occur if you are overclocking your CPU and the overclock is unstable. To fix this, all you need to do is press ALT-TAB on windows computers to switch back and forth then this problem will be solved.

As for the 'burning oil' from the towers, some towers if the units get too close to the tower for it to attack, you can research a technology (I think at the university building) that will allow the towers to attack units even if they are at the base of the tower by dumping hot black tar or oil over the units causing damage to them. 169.241.64.5 (talk) 14:37, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Compatibility Problems section, keep or not? Give opinions please.

The game was released before Vista existed(before XP was even out even), and Windows 7 isn't even out yet! Is listing its problems for those two operating systems necessary? Don't most old games have trouble running on Vista, unless you select the option to run them in Windows XP mode? And why mention there is no patch from Microsoft yet? A game that was released 10 years ago, isn't going to get a patch, no one expecting that. Everyone please give your opinion. Should the section called Compatibility Problems be kept? Defiantly not needed, as was noted the game is a decade old hence the problems are to be expected. The google results seem to be mainly forum posts from users asking about the problem, no results from any reliable source, my feeling is this is just a minor issue by the few users who still play the game. Just because its an issue doesn't mean it is notable enough to be included on Wikipedia. Provide some reliable sources with the section (not just a link to a google source containing mainly forum posts in your summary), if it is to be kept. QueenCake (talk) 20:24, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

I agree with the OP that this should be included. Asking for "reliable sources" or "official sources" is ridiculous. Looking through online forums, it is clear that this is a widespread issue that seems to affect everyone running the game on Vista and Windows 7. I doubt that MS is going to post on the website for the game that it does not run properly under these operating systems. AOE 2 Civilisations.

If I have one problem, there's no civilisations. There's no table showing the four types of civilisations at all so it's hard to know the kinds that are available when someone decides to play this game. I'll be happy if someone resolves my concern because there's a puzzle that seriously needs to be solved. Its not hard but at least it's not to dull or boring to read this article. I disagree. The Conquerors expansion lists the civilizations and links to them without further elucidation, and I think it is OK to list the names of the civs here. I do agree that they should not be expanded upon, other than links to the wikipedia articles of those civilizations themselves. This article mentions "the civilizations" several times within the article, but the User never gets a list of which civs they are? Population limit

It said that the smallest population limit is 75. In Age of Conquerors it is 25, and as it is an expansion pack to the Age of Kings, I assume the same applies for the Age of Kings. Gameplay Reference to a civilization only in the Conquerors.

When I was reading this article, a sentence read, "The population capacity, which can be capped at anywhere between 75-200, is based on the number of houses, Castles, or Town centers-the main building in a player's town-which have been built (except for the nomadic Huns who don't require houses.)" I removed the "(except for the nomadic Huns who don't require houses)" twice because this is about the Age of Kings, not the Conquerors. McBenjamin (talk) 03:53, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

"Forgotten Empires" Addon

This new freeware addon needs to be mentioned in the article, as it expands the game just as significantly as "Conquerors" did before. I also would restructure the article, giving each game/addon a different paragraph and headline (AoEII, Conquerors, Forgotten Empires, ...). New redirect (for now) for the soon to be new expansion article

As new details and a tease was released for The African Kingdoms expansion, I decided to make a redirect of it to this article, as a redirect for now, until even more details are released so we can begin working on that article as a whole. Discussion about merging with Age of Empires II HD

I'm opening discussion on merging Age of Empires II HD into this article. Due to a lack of distinct information and there being very few changes between the HD and the original version. There are some reviews for an adequate reception section but there is nothing to write about development or design. I don't think a reception section is enough to warrant a separate article. Yeah, there's really nothing different between the expansion pack and the actual game, and the Hd article really isn't an article. It would make total sense to just make a small section for it in the main article. Possibly put it in the Development or Sequel section? Okay, I understand that the two articles have been merged already, but I think now with the African Kingdoms DLC and more in the works, it would make more sense if AoE2:HD had it's own article. The two games are vastly different in the time they were released, who published them, the ecosystem (Steam), the reception, etc. --Waqqashanafi (talk) 04:58, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

Problems

Since the HD release and its multiple expansions, the article was pretty much outdated. The new content, which has sentences like "It includes new maps, campaigns, and units, a new game mode, and numerous balance and gameplay adjustments" appearing twice exactly the same, does not correspond to the quality of the rest of the article. Nevertheless, its biggest problem is sourcing. There are entire sections without any footnote, namely #Singleplayer campaigns. Things like "Deathmatch mode allows players to begin with large amounts of resources, creating a focus on military dominance, while in the regicide mode each player is given a king unit, winning by killing all of the other monarchs." also needed a citation, for example. Don't disagree really, but in the particular case of the Singleplayer campaign section, which basically serves at the plot section of this article, there typically isn't any sourcing. Plot is typically viewed as being sourced to the game itself, so there's usually no need to denote it. -- ferret (talk) 12:35, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

FA standard?

I came here to look for some info and was pleasantly surprised to see it was an FA. Then I started reading. Unfortunately, since it was promoted 11 years ago, not only has this degraded from where it was, but the FA standards have risen. If this was put to FAC now, it would be quick-failed on prose and sourcing issues. I'll give those who have this page on their watch list a good amount of time to start pulling up to current FA standards, but otherwise, I am afraid it will have to be time for a review of its status. Mac OS release date

According to an old Macworld article, the Mac OS version was in beta in 2001 and the porter's website says it hit final by November 1, 2001, so how could it have been released in 1999? -Logan (talk) 01:48, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
