Mixing Hindu and Rajput

[edit]

The person who wrote this clearly have no idea of either Hindus, Rajputs or Amer Fort. The fort was built by a Rajput (Hindu) in a mix af Mughal and Rajput/Hindu architecture. I can't change this as I have no source of this but it is as clear as you get wet of water. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.94.69.101 (talk) 17:25, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This Page in Hindi Language

[edit]

This page points a Hindi Wikipedia page "आमेर", so it is expected that the article on "आमेर" page is on the "fort of Aamer" in Hindi, but that Hindi Wikipedia page is actually about the "Town" Aamer rather than "Fort". Whereas there is an another page on Hindi Wikipedia "आमेर_दुर्ग" which is actually about the "fort of Aamer" and it should point by the English Wikipedia page "Amer Fort". Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose that The Citadel of Amer be merged into Amer Fort. Even if the latter is merely a part of the former, it would be far better explained in that context, rather than as a separate, and very brief, article in its own right. Judging from ghits, the subject seems to have limited notability outside the topic of the fort. Anaxial (talk) 10:08, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to the merger proposal, from the actual encyclopaedic reference worthiness point of view, and academically - The Citadel of Amer is the larger overarching structure. Sadly, due to limited tourist knowledge and commercial tours - the Amer Fort is wrongly mentioned. It is noted even by the UNESCO special evaluation committee ICOMOS in 2012[1] - that it is not a fort, but a palace. The major tourist attraction is called Amer Fort colloquially, whereas even the entrance board mentions AMER PALACE. So technically there is that issue of accuracy too.

It will be inappropriate to merge the two pages just as yet, as the Citadel of Amer page is being properly structured at this point. Since this is an important undertaking, perhaps at a later stage, when the overarching wiki page of the Citadel of Amer be ready, then the Amer Fort page can feature in a subset page of the Citadel page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.173.211.4 (talk) 10:39, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Palace or fort?

[edit]

There's an inconsistency in para 1, in which the first sentence refers to Amer Palace, while the third and fourth refer to Amer Fort, which is also the title of the page! It is only in the second sentence in para 2 that the reader discovers that the Fort and the Palace are one and the same. The caption over the photos at the RHS indicates that Amer Palace is the correct name, and that Amer Fort is therefore incorrect. If the caption is correct, the page should be headed Amer Palace, and the third and fourth sentences in para 1 should be combined as follows: Built by Raja Man Singh I, the palace overlooks Maota Lake, and is known for its artistic style of Hindu elements. (Note that Man has a long 'a' sound (as in past), so should be written as Maan; Amer has the same long 'a' sound, so should be written as Aamer.) The second sentence in para 2 should become the final sentence in para 1, as follows: Because of its large ramparts and gates, the palace is incorrectly called Aamer Fort.

Para 2 will then need to be edited to remove confusing statements such as "At the entrance to the palace near the fort’s Ganesh Gate ... ", etc.

Do you agree? Prisoner of Zenda (talk) 12:55, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that something should be done, but I am confused. If it is or was a military fort, then there should be a MILHIST WikiProject added to this talk page.--DThomsen8 (talk) 01:30, 5 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reg builder of the fort

[edit]

In the introduction it is mentioned as the Fort was built by Meena's (Sic). The source provided is a tourism site, its language is not very good, in the same sentence it mentions that the fort is now called Jaigarh. Jaigarh is a different fort nearby so it was called Amer at that time? What about the fort that is called Amer now? The language is confusing and looks unreliable. If anyone can find a reliable source for who built the fort. Please do. Sajaypal007 (talk) 09:28, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Removed travel blogs as source for history.

There were many blogs used on the page as citations for multiple historical claims which were not backed by WP:RS. Removed most of them, will try to improve the page in near future.Sajaypal007 (talk) 15:44, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

tourist guide book - one sentence - not a reliable source. David notMD (talk) 22:41, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

When was the fort built? The date listed, I believe, is incorrect by over 600 years.

[edit]

The date currently listed is 967 AD. This is the date that Amer, the city was settled. The palace was not built until the reign of Man Singh I which was from 1590-1614 AD. The Wikipedia article itself says it was constructed under the reign of Man Singh I (history section -> paragraph 3)

This paper has the build as starting between 1590-1614 (page 3), while this one says construction began in 1592 (page 25). Stater354 (talk) 21:30, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@RegentsPark: If you did not accept Alan Singh Chanda as the builder of Amber Fort, then you cannot accept Man Singh I as the builder of this fort. Because in Amber the capital of the Kachhwahas was shifted to which fort in 1037 AD and from which fort the Kachwahas ruled till 1592. That's why stop giving credit for the construction of this fort to the Kachhwahas because it is not possible. -- Kingdom of Khoh (talk) 14:35, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

https://treeofliferesorts.com/heritage/a-brief-history-of-amer-fort/

The establishment of Amer Fort, Jaipur was founded by Raja Alan Singh, who was a ruler from the Chanda clan of Meenas in 967 CE. The present day Amer Fort was built on the remains of the earlier structure, during the reign of Raja Man Singh. It was further expanded by Jai Singh 1, who was his descendant. Later years Amer Fort went through some more improvements and additions by their successors, until the Kachwahas shifted their capital to Jaipur, during the rule of Sawai Jai Singh 11, in 1727 Devilsingh121 (talk) 06:54, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
