@Legal.swr: Please explain how you say this section is "based on no factual or empirical evidence" when it cites the Times of India, Business Standard, Indian Express, and NDTV. —C.Fred (talk) 14:33, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
C.Fred, I believe it should be removed per WP:BLPCRIME. The ED found no evidence of wrongdoing in their investigation. Vermont (talk) 16:05, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Vermont: Good point. That is a reason to remove the section per Wikipedia policy; I have done so. —C.Fred (talk) 18:17, 18 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@C.Fred and Vermont: I'm not sure that this qualifies. Balkrishna is not an unknown person. He is a billionaire CEO and founder of India's second largest consumer goods company and the right hand man of one of India's most well-known pseudo-political religious leaders, Ramdev. These charges and arrests were widely reported. Most non-promotional profiles of Balkrishna note his brushes with the law and continue to do so. The links provided were all published after 2016. What Wikipedia does not indulge in is speculation and innuendo about why the charges against him were dropped which the media does. (We don't mention him being a large donor of the BJP which is the party that came to power in 2014 like articles like this one do.) Anyhow, I leave this to your judgement.—Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 17:45, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Cpt.a.haddock: You do have a point that he is a well-known person. It might be worth proposing a reworked paragraph about the charges, especially if they continue to be mentioned prominently in other neutral biographies of him. —C.Fred (talk) 21:41, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@C.Fred: I thought that the existing section was succinct and reasonable. It is the rest of the article that needs to be fleshed out. You might find sifting through its chequered history interesting. I leave it in your capable hands. I'm done keeping an eye on this guy. Thank you.—Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 08:47, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

After about three years, now that the case made its way back to the lede, what is the current stance of the section, preferably under Controversies? Looks like it the case is mentioned in the RS linked above. Does it warrant the addition back to the article? Ping: @Legal.swr, C.Fred, Vermont, and Cpt.a.haddock: -- DaxServer (talk) 07:40, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The article could do with moving some of that out of the intro and into the body of the article. —C.Fred (talk) 12:36, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Hipal: In the edit Special:Diff/1026319883, you have undid revision from @Wikieditor1008: which itself is a revert from @Legal.swr: who removed Controversies section. Based on your edit summary I believe you only intended to revert the lede and leave the Controversies intact? Or do you think the section is still WP:UNDUE? -- DaxServer (talk) 16:32, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The problems with the lede, and the BATTLE behavior around this and related articles indicate that there are problems here that only clear consensus is going to resolve. --Hipal (talk) 16:52, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As with Ramdev, I suggest we identify a relatively stable to work from, and take a very careful look at all changes since. --Hipal (talk) 16:55, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As of November 22, 2016 Balakrishna still continued to be "accused of obtaining an Indian passport on the basis of fake documents". His charges have never been dropped. [1] His passport was released after 7 years in 2018 after he filed an application for the release of the passport. The passport was released on conditions that are valid till date including "that Balkrishna could leave the country only with its permission." [2] Wikieditor1008 (talk) 18:36, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@C.Fred I agree with you that some of the past record must be retained into the body of the article. Wikieditor1008 (talk) 18:50, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So nothing has been written about the matter since 2016? --Hipal (talk) 15:23, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In 2011, Balakrishna was "accused of obtaining an Indian passport on the basis of fake documents".[3] After spending nearly a month in Suddhowala jail,[4] he was granted a bail in the forgery case but his passport was seized.[3] In 2018, he filed an application for the release of his passport. Although the charges against him could not be dropped, his passport was released by the High Court of Uttarakhand on certain conditions (current) which includes "that Balkrishna could leave the country only with its permission."[5] Wikieditor1008 (talk) 15:36, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I contest that the charges have not been dropped. Can anyone claim that the charges were dropped?

There is also no denying that Balkrishna spent nearly a month in Jail. CBI doesn't go around putting people in Jail. According to the chargesheet filed by the CBI, the accused forged documents and degrees. The accused was released on bail.

The charge may not be very serious for some but speaks a lot about Balkrishna's forgery tendencies.

Please note this is not the only criminal case he is involved in. Wikieditor1008 (talk) 05:57, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I contest that the charges have not been dropped. Can anyone claim that the charges were dropped? That's OR. This needs to stop or you'll face a block or ban. --Hipal (talk) 15:53, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Check the facts please. The matter is sub judice in the lower court of Uttarakhand.

If you cannot or will not make it clear that you're working from verified information, then it's OR. OR is not allowed. --Hipal (talk) 16:50, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"The agency checked all the records from the universities mentioned by Balkrishna but did not find anything to establish that degrees mentioned by Ramdev’s aide were awarded to him. Cross-checking Balkrishna’s two degrees ‘Purv Madhyma’ and ‘Shastri’ which he claimed as his, the CBI found the enrolment numbers mentioned in them did not match.

The investigative agency then filed a chargesheet against Balkrishna in a case of forging documents to procure a passport for which a trial is going on in a lower court in Dehradun."[1] - published on June 20, 2019

Birth place conflict

[edit]

The sources of Jansatta and daijiworld.com mention the birthplace as Haridwar.[1][2] However, The Economic Times states as Nepal.[3]

Are there any more reliable sources? -- DaxServer (talk) 11:25, 30 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal Alert

@Manu singh Lohan is constantly deleting the following text last updated by @GoingBatty without getting a consensus on the talk page.

"Originally a Nepalese, he was granted an Indian passport in 1998.[1] He was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for "alleged submission of alleged fake and forged documents to obtain an Indian passport." He is also alleged to have procured a fake degree.[2]"

If there's anyone that needs a block or ban from this article, it's Wikieditor1008. --Hipal (talk) 15:12, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Wikieditor1008 needs a block or ban of users who are deleting sourced content and failing to provide counter-arguments. Wikieditor1008 (talk) 10:49, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That doesn't help your situation in the least. --Hipal (talk) 15:52, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
