Improve Draft: Bang Chan

[edit]

I have added a few more information and references. How should I improve more if there is anyone else who wants to work on this Article, please go ahead and write and include reliable references please RDWolfgang (talk) 08:29, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Right now my priority is working on getting Hyunjin's article up to publication standards (as well as improving the quality of Han's article), but after that, I'm happy to jump on reworking this with you.
In the meantime, since you asked for ideas on how to improve the drafted article, my initial thoughts are:
• there's lots of repetition (for example, there's at least four mentions of how many songwriting credits he has, few of them agree on the number, and none of the stated numbers is uptodate - he has 194 KOMCA credits; there's also at least two mentions of the EDM project and neither the wording nor the context, nor the details, really change significantly);
• some stats are outdated (two examples: number of KOMCA credits; Red Lights is not Stray Kids' seventh most-viewed music video);
• too many citations in the lead section, which is meant to be a summary/overview of the article so doesn't really need the citations as the lead section shouldn't mention anything that isn't substantiated/proven in later sections;
• the "artistry" section has little to do with his actual artistry as a musician and as it stands is essentially three different sentences all with the same point: that he's written a lot of songs. Things that could go in this section might include (but isn't limited to) things like themes he writes about in songs, genres he often composes in, critic/media reception of his vocals, rapping, dancing, performance, etc., artists he's influenced by and/or artists who are influenced by him/called him an inspiration;
• the "impact" section has little to nothing concering his impact as a musician (that is, in his actual career/industry). There's plenty of things that could be talked about here rather than fans buying a product they saw on a live or him winning a couple of fan votes on apps that have little to no consequence on his career or the wider music industry. 3RACHA/Stray Kids/Bang Chan have been spoken of as the pioneers of an entire genre of music - that would be more relevant and noteworthy to discuss in the "impact" section;
• it's not written in a neutral voice (e.g. in the impact section "captivated 340,000 viewers" - "captivated" is leading language, " His exceptional skills" - similar issue);
• further to this point, is there a reason why the entirety of the "personal life" section is given over to a fan/viewer-generated controversy. Does that need to be there? (It feels like it's only there so that the "he is banned from doing Chan's room" comment can be made... which again, isn't really neutral, as there will be a heavy amount of subtext/implication to any reader even remotely familiar/involved with the band/fandom at the time.) Things appropriate to the "personal life" section would be, for example, that he has a dog named Berry, or which languages he speaks, or his hobbies;
• another related point to the lack of neutral voice is that in its current state, the article doesn't read particularly smoothly/well. The style/manner of writing is inconsistent (including some sections that sound like they're arguments in a school paper [the "impact" section is the worst for this, for example "This recognition highlights his impactful presence and appeal[...]", "demonstrating his impact as a lifestyle and fashion icon, driving interest and boosting the popularity of featured items"]), several paragraphs lack focus (either they could be split into two or more paragraphs which each had narrower scope, or they could be edited down to be clearer and more concise), and there's an overfocus on insignificant details (e.g.: does it matter to keep repeating "crypto.com arena"; does it need to be mentioned that the Circle chart was formerly called Gaon, especially when that's literally the first sentence of the linked Circle chart article; is it necessary to link to the B-3 supplement, or even mention it);
• there's a lot of simple linking rather than citations (the "other ventures" section is the worst for this).
Hopefully that provides some ideas for what can be worked on to bring the article to a publishable state. LycheeQuokka (talk) 15:54, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've got some time today, so I'll work on this with you now. LycheeQuokka (talk) 14:35, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi LycheeQuokka,
Thank you so much for offering your time to contribute to the article today. Your help is greatly appreciated!
If it's not too much trouble, could you possibly assist in finding reliable sources for Bang Chan's solo songs and his performances with 3RACHA? I think including well-sourced information on those aspects would be a valuable addition to the article. I see you have omitted "dancer", but he introduced himself in every interviews as a dancer of stray kids as well and in the initial days he also contributed in choreographies as well, i think we can also introduce him as a dancer.
Thanks again for your support, and I look forward to collaborating with you! RDWolfgang (talk) 15:50, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll do what I can!
Re: the dancing - taking it out of the lead section isn't meant to discredit Bang Chan or his dancing skills, simply that he has many other roles (the ones listed) that most people, especially more casual fans and general observers, would associate with him ahead of it. For example, Han receives a lot of praise for his dancing, but "dancer" isn't listed in his lead section or under his occupations, as a) it isn't his primary role within the group, b) he receives much more press/attention for other roles, c) a lay person will think of him as a songwriter and a rapper/vocalist. Bang Chan I would argue is much the same. (Contrast with, for example, Lee Know, Hyunjin, and Felix, all of whom are much more significantly focused on dance). To that end, as with Han, it would seem more appropriate to have a subsection under Artistry about dancing, and talk about Bang Chan's dancing there (including any info about contributions to early choreography), rather than list it as one of his occupations. Dear LycheeQuokka,
Thank you for your valuable contributions and for helping shape this article with such attention to detail. I’ve made a few adjustments, and I’d like to explain my reasoning behind them to ensure we align on the best structure for the article.
Firstly, I created a separate heading titled "Impact and Influence" as I believe this section should be distinct from "Influences." While influences focus on where an artist draws inspiration from, "Impact and Influence" highlights their overall effect on the industry and audience, which I feel deserves a dedicated section.
I also moved the rankings from Billboard and Tumblr under "Impact and Influence" since these positions reflect Bang Chan's broader impact and recognition as an artist rather than his creative artistry.
Additionally, I created a subheading "Influences" under the "Artistry" section because an artist's influences are closely tied to their creative process and should logically sit under this category.
I changed "Presenting Work" to "Hosting and MC Roles" to better reflect Bang Chan's contributions as both a host and MC, which I felt this new heading captures more accurately.
Lastly, I reintroduced the "Other Ventures" section and added subheadings for "Fashion and Endorsements" and "Philanthropy." This section is essential in an artist's article to cover areas beyond music and showcase their involvement in various fields, helping to paint a fuller picture of their career.
I hope these changes make sense and contribute positively to the article's structure. Thank you again for all your efforts, and I look forward to work together! RDWolfgang (talk) 10:28, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Re-adding dancer

[edit]

@Btspurplegalaxy

Hi there, I noticed that you reverted the addition of "dancer" to Bang Chan's role. I just wanted to clarify that in multiple interviews and performances, Bang Chan has introduced himself as a singer, rapper, and dancer, including during Stray Kids' official debut. Additionally, the main Stray Kids article reflects his role as a dancer. I’d be happy to provide sources supporting this. Could you kindly share your reason for removing it? I’d appreciate your thoughts on this matter. Thank you for your time! RDWolfgang (talk) 18:21, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You'll need a reliable source for the information. Interviews and performances can't be used as primary references. That's why the content was removed. If you can find a solid source confirming his occupation as a dancer, feel free to add it back. Btspurplegalaxy 💬 🖊️ 18:27, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there,
Thank you for your response. I understand the need for reliable sources. However, I would like to point out several articles that confirm Bang Chan's role as a dancer in addition to singing, rapping, sonwriting, and producing.
  1. In an article from IS Plus, Bang Chan is referred to as an "all-rounder artist," stating he is active as a leader, producer, vocalist, dancer, and rapper. You can view this article here.
  2. The South China Morning Post describes him as an "artistic jack of all trades," mentioning that he "often takes centre stage in Stray Kids’ choreography formations where he’s able to show off his years of dance training" (link).
  3. An article from Top Class emphasizes his "multi-talented" nature, highlighting that he possesses skills in rap, singing, dancing, and producing (link).
  4. In a Rolling Stone interview, it's noted that Bang Chan has "exceptional singing voice and dance ability" (link).
  5. Finally, comments from Park Jin-young underscore his capabilities, stating, "Chan is good at dancing, singing, rapping, and feeling" (link).
These sources not only affirm his role as a dancer but also support the information present in the main Stray Kids article. It may have been beneficial to cross-check these references before removing the term "dancer."
I appreciate your time and consideration, and I hope to reach an agreement on this matter.
Best regards! RDWolfgang (talk) 19:13, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would use the second source. Btspurplegalaxy 💬 🖊️ 19:40, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your feedback regarding the sources. However, I didn’t quite understand what you meant by "I would use the second source."
I would love it if you could elaborate on your opinion regarding the inclusion of "dancer" in Bang Chan's role. I believe that acknowledging him as a dancer is essential to represent his profession accurately, especially considering the multiple reliable sources I've provided.
If we could find a way to incorporate this information based on the sources available, I think it would give a fuller picture of his contributions to Stray Kids.
