He resigned BEFORE he was sacked.

We can't base wikipedia on what Gordon Brown said happenned. Being PM isn't an authoritative source. --81.105.242.11 (talk) 12:58, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
The words "by mutual consent" appear in The Telegraph and the BBC news item .
Everyone knows exactly what that expression means.
It is inconceivable he would have expected to keep his position had he not resigned so it seems fair to use the quotation whilst allowing the reader to see the Telegraph headline. I don't think Guido Fawkes is an adequate source, seeWikipedia:Identifying reliable sources.

Expenses
[edit]Firstly I appreciate people have spent time and effort on this but the purpose of Wikipedia is to provide factual, fair and up to date information.
The expenses section appears to me to ressemble a Wikipedia:Attack page but I hope I'm wrong.
I've removed the reference to "dishonest use of the expenses system", see WP:BLP. If either the BBC or Telegraph used the phrase, then it could be put in quotes and used in conjuction with the subjects response -but they didn't!
You may also want to look at Wikipedia:NPOV, Wikipedia:No original research,Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources, and Wikipedia:Notability.
The parliamentary salary is normal, see Salaries of Members of the United Kingdom Parliament and shouldn't be duplicated here.
Lists of shopping or household items aren't really required in an autobiography and don't put costs in context. What is more useful is a comparison with other MPs.
I won't remove anything verifiable and notable unless it's clearly out of date but don't hesitate to contact me if you think I've made a mistake or I can help in any other way.

POV ..Excessive and biased detail in expenses
[edit]I note that the expenses section seems to have details of ordinary expenditure, not found in other biographies and inappropriate to the encyclopedia article this is intended to be. I also note the timing just before the UK election. Gardiner appears to have paid back the money and may have to pay back more. The additional detail is out of date and unnecessary and is being repeatedly inserted. The Telegraph reference used includes a right of reply as required by English Law. It says "I paid a substantial capital deposit on the flat with only the interest on the balance of the mortgage being met by the additional costs allowance in accordance with parliamentary rules." Why has this been omitted?
A much smaller issue relates as to whether he was sacked or resigned. I've already raised this but it got changed again.

Good Friday Agreement
[edit]So this is awkward, especially as he denied using the words that journalists can clearly hear him using on tape. The fact that he was addressing the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, a think-tank for Die Linke, which is the old East German SED of Honecker and Krenz (ill)fame, doesn't exactly help either. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/apr/09/barry-gardiner-good-friday-deal-played-up-for-economic-reasons-labour-brexit-hard-border-paramilitary Khamba Tendal (talk) 22:29, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
Proposed deletions
[edit]The expenses, Bombarier and Khashoggi sections seem to me inconsequential: I think they could safely be omitted. Jontel (talk) 15:30, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose They were relevant to his shadow cabinet brief. But the article could definitely do with a re-structure. Alex 18:09, 7 April 2020 (UTC)
