Added criticism from Wayne Barrett — http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0536,barrett,67511,5.html Aroundthewayboy 20:34, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone insert Mrs. Gotbaum's maiden name and name she used before she married Victor Gotbaum? 16:46, 5 October 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.150.63.168 (talk)

You mean in the same way that woman tried to get the media to use her late daughter in law's maiden name so her name wouldn't be besmirched? Heartless bitch! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 15.251.169.69 (talkcontribs) 14:31, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: the unsigned note above. I won't dispute terms, but Gotbaum is far worse - she is a sleazy machine politician from a one party city (and increasingly one-party state) who backs teachers' unions and everything else which is politically correct in the moment. Wayne Barrett is of course correct about her. The position itself (NYC Public Advocate) should have been abolished with the Board of Estimate. Quis separabit? 17:26, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral phrasing?

[edit]

While some positive phrases that might have come out of a campaign brochure, such as "long-time civic leader", can still be defended as accurate summaries, I had trouble (as a former part-time journalist) with a couple that didn't seem fair to other possible points of view or adequately documented:

"At the New York Historical Society, she rescued that organization from bankruptcy and rebuilt its board of directors."

"In fact, Gotbaum has been an effective advocate on behalf of the city's people."

It's not that I (as a non-New Yorker who knows very little of Ms. Gotbaum) have any reason to think that these statements are false, just that as presently phrased, they seem out of place in a non-partisan encyclopedia. Shakescene (talk) 21:54, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

this is a good point thay ou veh made here. what I want to do is go back and try to find sources for these vialue judgemetns that I can cite and remove the ones that cannt be cited or are overly noneutral/undue weight Smith Jones 21:10, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Categories

[edit]

I rv categories related to being Jewish. No evidence she was raised Jewish. Just because Victor Gotbaum is doesn't mean she is. She might be a shiksa. Quis separabit? 17:21, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
