To-do list for Breed (video game):
|
does anybody play this game?
[edit]Um yea...doesn't anybody play this game?
Yes, I play this game !
[edit]A rewrite may be necessary IMO. Although the last edit does a good job of outlining the game it's style is all wrong, more in the nature of a review. I haven't looked at the Wiki Video game project yet but will put in a few edits ready for inclusion in that.
Obviously Halo is much more well known, but wiki is not a place to make fashionable distinctions between games. I have only briefly played Halo, but Breed seems to have important innovations of it's own IMO. It incorporates design elements that I was thinking would be great to put in a game since playing Unreal Tournament (the ability to take control of a gun emplacement, for example, and then leave the AI using it to cover you).
I will put in some edits about the humour in the game that might be lost on some younger players. The last edit mentions a "lack of story" that seems to be part of the joke that has been written into the game! DJ Barney 00:44, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Here are some reviews. I still haven't really found an in depth one. How did they develop the commander ?
A few of those mention the terrible nature of the first release of Breed that seems to have been rushed. The copy I have, re-released by "Xplosiv" suffers from none of the problems mentioned in the interviews. Apparently the developer and publisher had a "major fall out" and the publisher had to hire extra coders to finish the game although I can find no confirmation / sources for this.
Also I wonder if I should scrap a lot of the text instead of trying to "hack" it. It's difficult to get round the overall negative tone of the current edit that I'm trying to get rid of, so I can put, what for me, are the interesting elements: Breed (the intro video and voice acting in my copy, anyway) includes major influences from Starship Troopers and Dr Strangelove amongst other anti war themes. Try and find a copy of the Xplosiv (re)release if you are writing for this article! It includes an intro video very reminiscent of the "mirror universe" beginning to the "In a Mirror Darkly" episodes of Enterprise. DJ Barney 23:09, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- Where on earth is any modding / scripting information about this game ? One of the interviews mentions that it was "already heavily scripted and modified" by the first players of the game, but I can't find any instructions on the Breed CD or in the scripts. Were they just "hacked"? Interestingly there seems to be a "test" script in there with a dropship that has a tank in it. Intrigueing.
Recent Page Edit
[edit]An IP address has recently edited the page. A large portion of my edit was removed. No reason given. No edit summary. The added text really duplicates what I have already said in the text about bad reviews of the game. Following Good Faith practice I will not remove the edit ! I am unsure how to proceed with an IP. I would normally post on the user page. But will a user page for an IP work ? Many IP's are dynamic. This may be someone simply editing in their point of view of how the game should be perceived rather than adding to a balanced article. If you are new to Wikpedia and are reading this then hello! Thanks for hitting the edit button! I wonder why you took out my coverage of the style of the game though, and it's similarity to other games ? DJ Barney 18:46, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- I undid the edit and posted on the user page. It did make me see "This could be a misunderstanding of the satire in the game." which is a judgement on my part. I was really trying to bring in mention of the satirical elements. I may revise this line.
- Actually now I look at it again my statement about the satire does not follow WP:OR, and some of the text in the reception section should be in gameplay and characters! Feel free to undo MY edit ! I think I jumped a bit fast because a lot of my text was taken out when it really could have been moved to another section. I'll edit this better when I get a chance. - I removed it... "This could be a misunderstanding of the satire in the game." Some of the reviews allude to this being one of the elements of the game that was badly reveived, but I can't find a proper citation.
Todo list Ticks
[edit]How do you add ticks to todo lists ? DJ Barney 22:32, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Breed landing.JPG
[edit]Image:Breed landing.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
