Just added information about Guardino's biography. If you reported the biography section, let me know how to make it better. Clockwood18 (talk) 00:28, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This page should remain because Carl Guardino is heavily involved in numerous political areas in the Bay Area. He leads the Silicon Valley Leadership Group. He is a Commissioner on the California Transportation Commission[1]

A Google search [1] clearly shows that he has a great deal of influence.

He has been a leading proponent behind BART to San Jose, California - a $4.7 billion dollar project. Anon-liberal (talk) 05:37, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1) Discussion on the talk page is not required when tagging, I said in the edit summary why I'd tagged it. It's the responsibility of the article creator and primary editor to work on it if they believe the tags are in error. 2) Tag removal without addressing the issues is not appropriate given your level of involvement in the article.

This is not written even remotely like an encyclopedic article but rather a promotional puff piece for Guardino, hence tone. I fixed some of the worst clean-up issues, but it needs a lot more -- the random block quoting, vote results. None of which are appropriate. As I said, Guardino is probably notable but this is not encyclopedic. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 17:41, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tone

[edit]

Hi TC -

In answer - Commenting on the talk page may not be required but it helps avoid people on both sides getting irritated. Wikipedia has a reputation of being very eager to delete and NOT very nice writing even a sentence as suggested in the tone tag would have been appreciated and help counter that.

As I said in the comment guessing randomly is no substitution for *you* indicating specifically what is wrong.

For example, "tone" -- this being a puff piece for Carl I just about fell out of my seat laughing. I would have never guessed that.

w.r.t. vote results - Carl is very much the person who drives a large amount of corporate political dealings in San Jose, California. If it is on the ballot in Santa Clara County chances are that Carl through the Silicon Valley Leadership Group put it there. I am just attaching this directly to the person not just to the front group.

w.r.t. The "random block quoting" the last person tried to delete the page because Carl wasn't "notable" so I was throwing in all the things that would indicate that he was notable. If I took those out - no doubt the previous person would be back saying Carl wasn't notable.

You don't need the quotes, they're written in the style of a newsarticle, not encyclopedic. You need to refer to reliable sources that discuss his work, not quote them here. If someone were to tag it as non notable for that, they'd be wrong. I said from the beginning, he's likely (from a quick search, I haven't done any indepth research and am on the wrong coast so I'm not familiar with his work) notable, the article just needs some clean-up, which I see you've begiun to do. This article should be re-written because yes, the tone is inappropriate, but furthermore all of Guardino's accomplishments and achievements, as well as interests have been left out and there are simple errors in grammar and form. This is a negative depiction of him and in no way captures him as a person or political power - it simply notes scandal and failure. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.122.68.54 (talk) 05:45, 23 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Trim back

[edit]

I took out the link to the SVLG, which had nothing on him, found their bio of him, copied it here, rewrote it (mostly trimming it), and removed all the rest of the article, which was unsourced. any facts from the bio should be added only if considered notable by people other than SVLG promoters (one editor was such), and NO facts outside this bio should be added unless sourced, per BLP. being a proponent of a public project does not make you notable. i am a proponent of the bart to sj extension. look where its gotten me:)Mercurywoodrose (talk) 03:27, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge to Silicon Valley Leadership Group + removing plagiarism

[edit]

Are there any remaining objections to merging this page to Silicon Valley Leadership Group? I cannot determine any reason why Guardino is notable beyond SVLG. The article also is mostly just copied sentences and phrases from his bio page at the SLVG website [2]. I will remove these sentences immediately as they are violating copyright. I will also merge the pages if no objections are raised. BananaCarrot152 (talk) 21:10, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
