The result of the move request was: Move. We have a rough consensus that "Manhattan" is unnecessary here. Cúchullain t/c 20:47, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Castle Village, Manhattan → Castle Village – There's no other article with the name "Castle Village", so it is not ambiguous and can be moved back. --Relisted. walk victor falk talk 13:25, 19 May 2014 (UTC) Epicgenius (talk) 12:18, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose - "Manhattan" is not a disambiguator (which would normally be contained in parentheses), it is part of the description of the subject. This is merited by the size of the complex, which essentially qualifies it as a "sub-neighborhood". Thus, naming can follow the precedents of other neighborhoods, such as:
- and so on. While this format is certainly not mandatory, and some of the above do need to be disambiguated from other neighborhoods elsewhere, it is helpful to our readers to give them some idea about where the place they are reading about is located. Made-up names and truly unique identifiers -- such as Nolita, Noho, NoMad, Tribeca, Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village or Flatiron District -- don't need this, but it's certainly not disallowed to have further identification of where the subject is located, especially with such a relatively generic name as "Castle Village". - Oppose. Per BMK, "Manhattan" helps give people unfamiliar with the subject an idea as to where Castle Village is. Twyfan714 (talk) 21:43, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose. Per BMK. I'd just note that Noho, NoMad actually do have Manhattan in their title and the last three in that list are known outside the area.--agr (talk) 22:21, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for that correction. BMK (talk) 22:25, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Support WP:NATURAL disambiguation is still disambiguation. It's Wikipedia:Unnecessary disambiguation, not Wikipedia:Unnecessary qualifier. --BDD (talk) 16:26, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- Comment WP:USPLACE is a wp:guideline that grants exception to the general exhortation of WP:AT policies and guidelines to avoid superfluous disambiguation. It has its own exceptions for a number of places that follow the general rules, like New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and others (not limited to large cities I believe). walk victor falk talk 00:39, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- In particular, it says "Neighborhoods within New York City are identified by the standard neighborhood, borough, where "borough" is one of the five boroughs: Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens or Staten Island."--agr (talk) 02:40, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- Support. Current title seems like unnecessary disambiguation, is less concise, as well as being overly precise. —seav (talk) 14:41, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
- Support per WP:NATURAL and WP:CONCISE. Dralwik|Have a Chat 02:00, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
- Support user:agr points out the rules for New York Neighborhoods. Castle Village is an apartment complex in the Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights, Manhattan. WP:USPLACE is meant to be applied to administrative places in the US, such as states, cities, counties, parishes, incorporated and unincorporated towns, et cetera. It is not meant to apply to any and all places in NY. walk victor falk talk 13:25, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Support - Per victor falk; WP:USPLACE, WP:CONCISE seem to hold sway here. NickCT (talk) 18:36, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
