I'm happy to discuss, or be challenged on, any of my comments. My first impression is that the article isn't too far away from GA standard, but needs some work on sources. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 08:49, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Factfanatic1 Thanks for your work on the article. I've put my comments below, and I'll have another look after your responses in case I missed anything. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 10:21, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Following negative feedback on a recent review of mine, I'm inviting another reviewer to take a look. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 11:06, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Factfanatic1 I know you've raised questions on the talk page about whether to include certain material. I'm happy to keep the review on hold for now, if that works for you. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 16:01, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

  • The Filmography has a number of entries that aren't referenced. (e.g. Madea's Family Reunion,A Dennis the Menace Christmas, Six Blocks Wide.) I'd suggest adding a references column to the Film and Television tables (like there is on the Awards and nominations table).
  • IMDb shouldn't be used as a source - except in a couple of particular circumstances. (see WP:RS/IMDB and WP:CITINGIMDB). I don't think it's needed about Decatur as there is a different source for that.
  • "CHINA MCCLAIN ATTENDS THE 43RD NAACP IMAGE AWARDS" should be in mixed case, I think. (Same with "VIDEO" and "DOC MCSTUFFINS" in other sources.)
  • What makes kidzworld a reliable source?

Social Media Sources

  • Using McClain's channel as the source for "Dynamite (from A.N.T. Farm) and the Disney Channel's channel for Calling All The Monsters Music Video ft. China Anne McClain; seems OK by WP:RSPYT to me. Better source needed for "Calling All the Monsters" (as per second review comment below). BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 15:27, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The use of Twitter for the Hollywood Records, McClain announcing the end of A.N.T. Farm, and NightShift info here seems OK according to WP:RSP.
  • The use of the Facebook source here seems OK by WP:SOCIALMEDIA
  • The laurynandchina and YouTube channel doesn't appear to be verified, so I think a different source would be needed.

Early Life

  • The sentences about her father and mother could probably be combined.

Career

2005–2010: Daddy's Little Girls and Tyler Perry's House of Payne
  • "after catching Tyler Perry's attention" - this reads a bit oddly, tacked onto the end of the sentence. Can a bit more detail on that be provided?
  • I wasn't familiar with the phrase "booked a role" but it seems to be in fairly common usage, so is OK.
2011–2014: A.N.T. Farm and music
  • There is a duplication of "2011" in the first sentence.
  • The sources for 'She also sang the series theme song, "Exceptional". McClain's first music video, for "Dynamite," amassed more than 1 million views in under a week after release on YouTube.' don't seem to be cited inline.
  • either start or new sentence with "The album peaked at number 29 ..." or a reword to the sentence that currently contains it.
  • The source for "She reprised her role as Charlotte McKenzie in the 2013 sequel Grown Ups 2" is not cited inline.
  • The source for "On the same day, it was revealed that the McClain Sisters had left Hollywood Records" is not cited inline.
  • The source for "A few months after the show ended, McClain starred in the Disney Channel television film How to Build a Better Boy (2014) alongside Kelli Berglund, and released the single "Something Real" which was featured in the film" is not cited inline.
2015–present: Descendants and Black Lightning
  • The source for "She voiced Freddie, the daughter of Dr. Facilier. Her sister, Lauryn McClain, voiced the character for season two" is not cited inline.
  • The source for "She also guest starred as Sheena on K.C. Undercover (2017) and starred as Meg in the Lifetime television film Ten: Murder Island (2017)." is not cited inline.
  • "In August," - add the year (or join it to the previous sentence).

Personal life

  • "Lauryn and China" - include surname.
  • As the youtube channel isn't verified, look for another source. A statement like "Their last YouTube video was posted in April 2018 and the channel has since been inactive." should be qualified with an "As at.." Maybe join it with the next sentence?
  • "She currently resides.." - source is from 2012, so reword.
  • If possible, expand a bit on "her biggest influences"

Second opinion

[edit]

  7. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:
    BennyOnTheLoose's decision

The Filmography section needs sources, most if not all are already here, but they need to be inline. Pop and R&B are mentioned but never sourced. Guitar is mentioned but never sourced. "For the Disney Channel Halloween special in 2011, she performed the song, "Calling All the Monsters".[21]" cites Youtube; a better source is needed. © Tbhotch (en-3). 15:32, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator indefinitely blocked

[edit]

BennyOnTheLoose, Tbhotch, nominator Factfanatic1 was blocked indefinitely on September 10 for serious BLP issues, among other reasons. There have been recent edits to the article, so now is probably the time for a final assessment, and the article either passed if it fully meets the GA criteria and BLP rules, or failed if it falls short. Thanks for taking another look. BlueMoonset (talk) 21:55, 11 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Failing for GA, as there are still some issues around verification, and quality of sources, that need fixing. (Other improvements may be needed too.) BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 15:06, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Should we add the Anita Baker feud and her reaction to close friend Cameron Boyce's death in her "Personal life" section?

[edit]

Both of these incidents were highly publicized with her feud with Anita Baker being quite controversial. Source: [1] It's notable for being the first sort of "scandal" that McClain has been involved in and the feud was pretty high-profile. Also, when her close friend Cameron Boyce died, who she with on several projects including Grown Ups, Grown Ups 2, and they both starred in leading roles on the Disney Channel around the same time and then reunited as costars in Descendants 2 and Descendants 3. Sources: [2] & [3] What are your thoughts? Factfanatic1 (talk) 21:14, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why have you gone straight to RfC? I cannot find any indication that the avenues described at WP:RFCBEFORE have even been tried, let alone exhausted. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:45, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
