Park and town

This has information on the history of the town and of the park. There is also an article on the town, where more of the historical information belongs, as well as the gallery of historical photographs - to give a sense of the town when it was living. Military service

Allensworth was a civilian nursing aide in the Hospital Corps of the 44th Illinois Volunteers during the Civil War. In 1863, he enlisted in the US Navy and served two years. In 1886, he won an appointment to the US Army as a chaplain, and served for 20 years, retiring as Lt. Colonel.
