The Father,Son(Jesus Christ)& Holy Spirit - is the Holy Trinity.
3 in 1.
Any "religion" that does not accept all 3 together or does not include one of the 3 -is a cult.
It seems that Joachim was a believer of the Trinity and so this *would not be a cult. Just because the Pope might not have agreed with Joachim, this did not make Joachim an occultist.
You can't call something a cult just because a Pope didn't agree with someone's semantics. After all, they both believed in the Trinity!
Literally these words are important not because of the Catholic church but BECAUSE of the HOLY TRINITY.
- I had earlier said this would then be a Brotherhood. I understand this would not be a "Brotherhood". But I am sure he was not a cultist. I don't know how you would title it.

Rename from "Cult" to "Brotherhood"?
[edit]The change would reflect a more accurate translation from the Portuguese, namely Irmandades do Divino Espírito Santo — HipLibrarianship talk 18:54, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
- I disagree. This article reflects the historical religious practices, buildings, faith-based activities associated with the religiosity of the Holy Spirit Festivals. The "Brotherhood", which only refers to those people involved in the activities, should it become important, should have its own article. My intention in translating from the original was to develop a catchment for the subject matter, and such the content varies: primarily since the content was Terceira-island-centric, titled based on the buildings, and that it was not generalist enough: it would have created edit-wars between POV editors. "Irmandades" although common on some islands (once again Terceira), are not the only physical institutions common to the Holy Spirit Festival (I refer to the treatres, impérios and more recent celebrations that are semi-secular, who invite non-practitioners). At the very least, the article title might be tweaked to the "Holy Spirit Festivals" or the "Festivals of the Holy Spirit" (since it is the more common English term in use to reflect the subject matter): even in Portuguese these religious celebrations are more popularly referred to as the "Festas do Espírito Santo". I agree that the title is misleading. The word "cult" is, at least from the perspective of Holy Ghost Societies in southeastern New England USA, inappropriate and demeaning for several reasons (1) its followers are part of a very large and accepted religion, Catholicism, and not a separate religion or sect; (2) its followers live in a conventional manner; (3) its followers are not under the guidance of an authoritarian and/or charismatic leader.
The word "brotherhood" is also misleading in that it implies exclusively male membership, which is certainly not the case today. I suggest simply "Holy Ghost Societies" or "Holy Ghost Associations".

- I suggest looking-up what a "cult" is before making those claims about being "demeaning"; the modern sense of the word belies people's lack of understanding of the English language. A mere glimpse at Dictionary.com will allow a clearer understanding of the term and its proper use; there are no references to sects that are untoward. Even from the original Portuguese, these societies are referred to as "culto" not "sociedades" (societies). One final note, although the societies, associations or brotherhoods (irmandades) play a part in this subject, the article refers to the socio-religious expression associated with the veneration of the Holy Spirit in the acts, worship, rites and ceremonies of its people. ruben jc ZEORYMER (talk) 01:00, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
Joachim of Flora connection ???
[edit]I have seen other assertions that Holy Ghost festas are rooted in, or at least associated with, the teachings of Joachim of Flora. However I am not aware of any established linkage to either of the Elizabeths generally credited with the very first festa. Amerazor (talk) 15:28, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
