Party affiliation[edit]

What was his party affiliation? Garnsey genealogy at Family Tree Maker, cites him as "Jackson Democrat". Bioguide, however claims he was a "Adams candidate."—Markles 19:04, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • The genealogy site transcribes an earlier version of the Congressional Directory (which is now known as "Bioguide"), and another source mentions Jackson Democrat too. It is not clear why 100 years after the mans death the party affiliation should be changed, I suspect it is a typo. Somebody messed it up, as it was done with Charles Kellogg and William G. Angel. The Bioguide is in a general way not reliable, I have cleaned up at least a hundred of these bios, and found numerous little mistakes. I prefer as source the paper published by the Historical Society. Kraxler (talk) 20:30, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • That's good enough for me. Let's leave it as Jacksonian (or "Jackson Democrat"), here and elsewhere.—Markles 01:15, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
