City 4 Gillingham 2

[edit]

I removed the following paragraph:

On the 3rd game of the 2007 campaign he was involved in one of the football leagues greatest comeback. Bradford city were found 2-0 down after 14 mins but bradford then had a life line thanks to a mark bower goal just before half time. bradfords dean windass scored a rebounce after kelvin jack saved it and windass then got bradford in the lead in the 82nd minute and then jermaine johnson made a spectacular 1 man run and scored thanks for reading written by simon

I believe this has no part of the Windass article: it is about a single result which, though impressive, cannot said to be one of the Football League's greatest comebacks. Also, it is more a match report than a reflection of Dean's career. The only matches that should be documented are those of much wider interest than a League One start-of-season match.

Cleanup

[edit]

Article needs a total rewrite from a NPOV and with reliable citations. Qwghlm 14:45, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Beer

[edit]

It should also include the time when a supporter threw a beer can at Windass, who picked it up, took a swig, then threw it back. If appropriate sources can be cited... Beve 11:25, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OBE

[edit]

How did he earn his OBE? Source? I am the uncle of Dean Windass's brother and can confirm that Dean does not have an OBE (and is hardly ever likely to receive one considering his unprofessional behaviour on and off the pitch!)

if u are the uncle of Deano's brother, so wouldn't you be Deano's uncle85.210.12.52 17:23, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

sent off 3 times in a game

[edit]

how would that work? how can he be sent off 3 times in one game.--Numberwang (talk) 10:40, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think he was reluctant to leave, and was shown the red card twice more than usual when returning to the pitch to argue with the ref. Beve (talk) 15:14, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spectacular volley

[edit]

I recognise this is an encyclopedia, but to simply state this was "a goal" seems unnecessarily dry, and to describe it as a "spectacular volley" doesn't seem too POV to me. I can find you any number of sources that describe it as such. I could even word it to say "a volley described by many pundits as spectacular", but that would seem a little clumsy. Beve (talk) 20:46, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How about 20-yard volley? Say it as it is. To be honest, I don't think it was spectacular. Peanut4 (talk) 20:47, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, so it's your opinion that counts, rather than that of dozens of professional sports writers? Also, if you search wikipedia for spectacular volley, you'll see it's used in many articles. I don't see anything wrong with it. Beve (talk) 20:53, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Spectacular is definitely POV. What is spectacular to one, isn't to another. Just stick to the facts, perhaps adding described as "spectacular", but don't call it spectacular volley. But thanks for bringing this to the talk page, rather than having a pathetic edit war. Peanut4 (talk) 21:02, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I'm here to do good. Pathetic edit wars are, well, pathetic. Beve (talk) 21:06, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, I've seen some stupid ones recently. I took it myself to the talk page and heard nothing since. Anyway I digress. Peanut4 (talk) 21:15, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

200 league goals?

[edit]

According to match reports from BBC and Oldham Athletic, Windass now has 200 career goals ... yet the table shows 185. Anyone know where the other 15 goals went?  LATICS  talk  20:23, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They vanished in someone's calculator. Fixed it. Peanut4 (talk) 21:00, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, right. Didn't bother doing the match myself. Thanks, though. :)  LATICS  talk  22:16, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
