Derdiyok has kurdish roots, check the sources in the german and french version. Please stop deleting that, turkish nationalism is uncalled for here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.75.161.109 (talk) 10:49, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that his own opinion is a better resource than any "version" in German or French. This is not Turkish Nationalism this is just trying to get the most accurate Wikipedia article. Eren Derdiyok has stated clearly in an interview that he is Turkish - case closed.

could you PLEEEASE show me that interview! here the original WEBSIDE FROM BAYER LEVERKUSEN! He is presented as Swiss nationalplayer with KURDISH ROOTS AT 0:48 SO STOP YOUR TURKISH NATIONALISM

http://www.bayer04.de/b04/de/_md_bayer04tv.aspx?guid=0-812B8CA1-A3AC-4AD7-95F6-EBF1FACCE06F-613&id=1363&guid=0-812B8CA1-A3AC-4AD7-95F6-EBF1FACCE06F-613&id=1363

And here another OFFICIAL UEAFA VIDEO where they call him swiss with kurdish roots.

Also, I don't think using what other Wikipedia articles say just cause they're in a different language makes for a very good source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thprfssnl (talkcontribs) 21:32, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can show you lots of interviews that he declares himself as turkish, wants to play for turkish national team, roots for Besiktas JK and wants to play in turkish league. Here's one: http://www.milliyet.com.tr/default.aspx?aType=SonDakika&ArticleID=876021 I'm in no way a turkish nationalist but it is not very academical to remove every trace of his turkish nationality from the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.172.194.70 (talk) 10:54, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality

[edit]

Well let's be neutral. He is of Turkish origin with Turkish nationality. I'm writing that.--Kurdalo (talk) 20:22, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Eren Derdiyok is of turkish origin

[edit]

Eren Derdiyok is of turkish origin, see sources from german and swiss journalists: —Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiERD (talkcontribs) 23:02, 11 June 2008 (UTC) All official Sources shows Eren Derdiyok as turkish origin, not kurdish. He himself says to be turkish too: http://www.wettbasis.com/stars/eren.html "Eren Derdiyok ist ein junger Schweizer Stürmer türkischer Abstammung ..." (Eren Derdiyok is a young swiss player of turkish origin". Other sources from german and swiss journalists. Every Source describes him as "türkischstämmigen Eren Derdiyok" (turkischstämmig means turkish origin): http://www.stern.de/em2008/kompakt/vorberichte/:Schweiz-T%FCrkei-Duell-Vergangenheit/623443.html http://www.faz.net/s/RubFB1F9CD53135470AA600A7D04B278528/Doc~E619C535890F643C3823AB7430554973E~ATpl~Ecommon~Scontent.html http://sport1.ch/sport-news-news-detail.aspx?newsid=120687&navi=872 http://www.taz.de/1/archiv/dossiers/dossier-fussball-em-2008/artikel/1/die-neuen-deutschlinge Stop manipulating the article . --WikiERD (talk) 23:00, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From a official swiss source: http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/specials/euro2008/euro2008_rss_detail/Switzerland_meet_Turkey_in_must_win_match.html?siteSect=22204&sid=9197694&rss=true&ty=st "Hakan Yakin, Gökhan Inler and Eren Derdiyok are all of Turkish origin" "Of course this match is 'special' for me, since Turkey is the country my parents came from and I speak the language," said Derdiyok." --WikiERD (talk) 23:14, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another Source, Herald Tribune! http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/06/11/business/11soccer.php "Yakin and Derdiyok are men of Turkish parents, as is a third member of Switzerland's starting eleven: Gokhan Inler." As you can read, Eren Derdiyok has turkish parents and so he is of turkish origin. --WikiERD (talk) 23:14, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Official UEFA Website - Eren Derdiyok is of turkish origin

Another source, a well known Swiss news page

Just another source, one more, Eren Derdiyok is of turkish descent =

Finally, this source prooves that Eren Derdiyok has turkish ancestors and that his parents are turkish of ethnicity, too

CNN-Interview with Eren Derdiyok, he says that he is a Turk

[edit]

http://www.cnnturk.com/SPOR/FUTBOL/haber_detay.asp?PID=177&haberID=469615 "20 yaşındaki Eren, "...Çünkü biz Türk'üz, Türk bayrağına ve milletine büyük saygı ve sevgi duyuyoruz"
(Translation: 20 year old Eren, "... Because we are Turk we respect and love the turkish flag and the turkish nation")
Now everyone can read that Eren Derdiyok says himself that he is a Turk.
--WikiERD (talk) 16:35, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Listen you dont want to fight with me.....

you say the kurds are not a people. well you can clearly read here on wikipedia that they are more ancient then the turks. you say they are turkish nomads. that makes no sense! you think i am going to even read the sources you are putting up? come up with a source were he says "i am a turk" that is not from "cnn" turk because i know 100% that Derdiyok is a Kurd from Turkey. --Kurdalo (talk) 20:11, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your are a liar, everybody can see the facts in the CNN Interview! I know also interviews of his father and he always says that he has Turkish ancestors. As everybody can read, Eren Derdiyok says himself to be of Turkish origin (see CNN interview). He knows better than anybody else what he is. You should stop spamming and vandalizing the article! --WikiERD (talk) 21:20, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stop complaining Kurdalo. Nobody is saying you are not a people. Kurds are very much a people just as much as the Turks or anybody. don't bring your fight to this article, Eren isn't Kurdish and that's that. There's nothing wrong with that either. If he was Kurdish, would you favour him more or respect him more? Would he be a better person?

Eren Derdiyok, swiss newspaper: "After all we are Turks"

Translation of the bold text:
Derdiyok war quoted with the words that he was not happy to play against Turkey, he said "After all we are Turks.". Beside that you can read one more that in the article Eren Derdiyok was described as "türkischstämmiger Mannschaftskollege Eren Derdiyok" which is translated "teammate Eren Derdiyok of Turkish origin" --WikiERD (talk) 12:29, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SO STUPID!! FIRST YOU SAY KURDS ARE NOT A PEOPLE THEN YOU JUST PICK A 5 NEWSPAPERS WHO REFER TO HIS TURKISH CITIZENSHIP!

He being a kurd with turkish nationallity is a very known scenario.

All sources speak of his Turkish ancestors + Eren Derdiyok says himself to be of Turkish origin. Are you somehow a stupid donkey that you dont understand clear statements of Eren Derdiyok and his parents to be of Turkish origin?! No one knows it better than themselfs. So shut up and stop your POV-Edits! --WikiERD (talk) 18:44, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Derdiyok is a Swiss footballer of ethnic Kurdish origin. See his interview on official website of Bayar 04 Leverkusen: [1]. The German Wikipedia article has already been corrected and updated. Tajik (talk) 15:58, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Eren is a person who has Turkish passport but his roots are Kurdish. Believe me, i know this and it is correct. Of course he has to say that he is Turkish because of his passport because this is a dangerous issue in Turkey. All Kurdish people in Turkey are also have Turkish passport and they are realized as Turks in other countries. So do not show any foreign website source because they are not as reliable as the real life. and if you wanna know, he also has Alevi origin rather than Sunni as most people of Tunceli (where his father born).(85.104.6.185 (talk) 19:12, 9 February 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Since There are Enough Proofs 'bout Him Being Turkish

[edit]

Since there are enough proof about him being Turkish, why does it still say he is of Kurdish descent? Nozdref (talk) 15:29, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was asking the same question while watching the football mathc of switzerland. How can it be, that one single user here claims that he knows Eren Derdiyok was kurdish, if there is no official statement. This is why wiki becomes more and more unreliable. Too much false politics even here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.34.4.44 (talk) 15:45, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Eren Derdiyok has dual-citizenship, I dont mind if you call him a ethnic Kurd but dont forget that he has the Turkish nationality, he is a Swiss-Turk with a Kurdish background, dont potray him like a complete Kurd. Redman19 (talk) 07:10, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I couldnt find a official source that states him being Kurdish so Im reverting it back to its original. Redman19 (talk) 07:44, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean by that he's not "a complete Kurd"? Is it because he has only Swiss and Turkish citizenship and not Kurdish? There aren't any Kurds with Kurdish citizenship since a Kurdish national state don't exist. If he's not "a complete Kurd" because of not having Kurdish citizenship then "complete Kurds" don't even exist. It's been proven that Eren is an ethnic Kurd since they say so in an video interview made by his club Bayer Leverkusen, but I've also added that he's hailing from Turkey. That's as neutral as you can get since it includes his Kurdish ethnicity and his connection to Turkey. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.249.70.221 (talk) 08:09, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, some Kurds believe that anybody who does not play for Turkey's national football team must be a Kurd, which is obviously ludicrous. There are also spreading rumours on Mesut Ozil!.. so please be on the look out for vandals on Ozils page as well.Turco85 (Talk) 15:02, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do not revert

[edit]

Please do not revert until there are more sources found on the net stating Derdiyok is a Kurd, right now there are more sources stating he is of Turkish descent. Redman19 (talk) 09:48, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymous user why are you still reverting everything back to your own liking? I thought I made my point clear didnt I? I just tipped an admin for help because you dont seem to understand that you are vanadalizing this article, there are 5 sources that state he is of Turkish descent, end of discussion. Redman19 (talk) 08:24, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Again, Eren himself never stated that he is of Kurdish descent only several sources do but these sources are misinformed, because there are more sources stating he is of Turkish descent, since there are more sources stating about his Turkish background he is of Turkish descent. The english version of Derdiyok on wikipedia is ignorant

[edit]

In every other language Eren Derdiyok is labelled as a Kurd from the Kurdish city of Dersim in Turkey. So, it is pretty clear he is Kurdish. Even Fifa states this

From Fifa's own site ( which is by any instance the most accurate)

Eren Derdiyok embodies the stature and attributes typically associated with a top striker. At 1.90m and 83kg, the Swiss international has supplied his clubs with a steady stream of goals in recent years.

Born in Basel, Derdiyok joined current Swiss second division outfit BSC Old Boys as a youngster and remained there for fully 12 years. In 2006, after acquiring a first taste of life as a pro with Old Boys, he made the time-honoured switch to bigger neighbours and rivals FC Basel.

The 22-year-old spent three seasons with FCB, collecting a first trophy in April 2008 when Basel won the Swisscom Cup. Just a month later, the striker with Kurdish roots added another and even more significant medal to his collection when Basel won the league and completed the double.

Career statistics

[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

After compeleting my text edit, I noticed that the table career statistics does not include the BSC Old Boys and FC Basel matches. Sorry, but I have tried to add these, but have never worked with such a table and have not been able to control it. I have managed to add the two teams, but because both teams have more than one season it has not worked out correctly. I have spent hours trying to get it right, but to no avail, I cannot get the total for the club into the table correctly. I am also not sure if I should include the FCB U-21 team ot not. I now give in, sorry.

Please forgive me, but I know someone will help. Thanks.

Greetings and merry Christmas from Basel Huligan0 (talk) 22:32, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
