Factual Error

The article states that "His nephew, John Joseph Montgomery was inspired by these experiments and became a significant figure in the history of flight." Spearman's biography of Montgomery covers his genealogical history (Arthur Dunning Spearman, John Joseph Montgomery – Father of Basic Flying, University of Santa Clara, Santa Clara, CA, 1967); and Montgomery’s only relationship to Marriott is that Frederick “Marriott was an acquaintance of Zach Montgomery,” (page 11 of the referenced text). Questions

This entry states he was nearly shipwrecked sailing the Isthmus of Panama, but that is an area of land. FloridaArmy (talk) 08:25, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It means sailing along the coast to the isthmus, crossing by land, and then continuing the journey via the other ocean. E Eng 09:52, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
