Intro[edit]

Hi HIST 319 folks - here's where we will draft a new article together on the lynching of Marshall Clarke in Milwaukee in 1861.Rudibatzell (talk) 22:32, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Division of Labor[edit]

The draft article now has subsections, and each of you will work on a specific subsection:

Lede/Intro: Maty

Background: Josh /Nick

Events/Timeline of the Lynching: Julia / Evie

Aftermath / Significance: Sara / Grisel

You should use the Michael Pfiefer article and make sure to include notes with pages numbers for all citations [see Waldrep placeholder example].

Tip: If you click on the little "edit pencil" on the top right, you can switch from "Visual Editing" to "Source Editing" which can be helpful in certain situations.

Second tip: If you are feeling confused about something, you may want to revisit some of the Wiki tutorials and trainings on the WikiEdu course timeline. They are packed with good info, and it can be helpful to re-read them once you have a bit more experience. Rudibatzell (talk) 22:32, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Class Discussion[edit]

Hey guys! Do you have any suggestions regarding the lede? Do you think some sentences could/should be more concise or, on the contrary, do you think I should had more details to certain sentences? Thank you! MathiIde (talk)

Needs addressing: "both Clarke and Shelton were imprisoned, but Irish Milwaukeeans considered the punishment not severe enough." "prison" is post trial and sentencing; "jail" is being held (or potentially released on bail) prior to a trial. Clarke and Shelton were in jail awaiting trial, so the language needs clarification and correction. Rudibatzell (talk)

I corrected it. What do you think? Best, MathiIde (talk)

Does this sentence stand out as attempting to prove a point? Should it be deleted? "Following the murder, some members of the mob and onlookers took pieces of the rope with them as souvenirs from the offense, which is further evidence of the collective desire among Irish Milwaukeeans to "have [their] revenge!" through assassination." Yes, I agree with you. I'm going to remove it. MathiIde (talk)

Great! Thank you! Juldav2000 (talk) 02:02, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

To Do List Before Publication on Friday[edit]

In addition to working on the specific section assigned to you in the division of labor above. Sign your name after the following options if you want to take a leading role. More than one person can work on each, but all of these need attention.

1. Access and incorporate additional scholarly sources as cited page 627 of Pfiefer article Nick Katsikas (talk)

2. Develop the "Significance" Section of the draft article Snguay (talk)

3. Resolve issues with the Notes and References. Short, author page citations in Notes section, full citation in References.

4. Proofread and copyedit the entire article looking for clean, clear, grammatically correct writing. MathiIde (talk) Juldav2000 (talk) 22:34, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

here's how you sign with three squigglies "tildes" on the top left of your keyborad Rudibatzell (talk)
