NPOV disputed / citations needed

[edit]

In its current state, the tone of this article contains elements of fan-site and promotional material. That Swede is a 'major figure' in his field is probably beyond dispute, given his position as editor of Frogpond (though a reference for that wouldn't go amiss), but neutrality is called into question with such unsourced opinion-statements as that Swede is "known for his wry, poignant observations", "noted for his one-line haiku", that his experiments with the (one-line?) form are "widely known". As an encyclopedia, WP needs to contain only verifiable material, referenced to a reliable source.

"His finest earlier work has been collected", "The best of his tanka have been gathered" Who has made the judgment that it's his finest/best?
"While readers laud his haiku, some favor his tanka"; "...evidence for their universal appeal." Please, this is not a fan website.

If a subject is worthy of having an article in WP (and this one surely is), then surely it's worth having a proper encyclopedic article.

Nice work. I've removed those cleanup tags as the issues have largely been addressed. However the opening para is in need of expansion, as the article is still very bottom-heavy. All assistance appreciated.
