Quick review

[edit]

This is a very decent article with a lot of information which appears at first glance to be well sourced. It is certainly B class. Areas for attention - expand the lead to reflect more of the content of the article. The lead should be a mini article - a summary for those who don't wish to spend a half an hour or more reading the whole thing. See WP:Lead. There are a lot of images cluttered near the start of the article, and very few near the end. Space them out a bit more - and pay attention to captions - see WP:Captions. The Transport section is very detailed - it should be broken out in WP:Summary style to a sub-article: Transport in Glamorgan. Remember to leave a summary. Make the relationship between Glywysing and Morgannwg clearer - and sooner; it looks odd at the moment. Consult WP:UKCITIES for guidelines on how to structure the article (History before Geography, for example). Good luck. I'll pop back later to have a look. Improvements to "Administration" section

[edit]

Some of the facts in the "Administration" section ought to be included in the introduction, but the Administration section does not do a very good job of tying Glamorgan of pre-1974 to the present day. All it tells us is:

"Under the Local Government Act 1972, the county boroughs and administrative county of Glamorgan were abolished on 1 April 1974, with three new counties being established, each containing a former county borough - West Glamorgan, Mid Glamorgan, South Glamorgan. In 1996 these areas were reorganised into several unitary authorities by the Local Government Act of 1994."

Yes, but what happened to Caerphilly and the other former civil parishes in its immediate vicinity? I have spent the past two hours trying to find out. The division of Glamorgan only occurred 42 years ago. That is no reason to mention it so briefly.

I know the town of Caerphilly was in the historical county of Glamorgan before 1974. I know that since 1996 the town of Caerphilly and a good number of surrounding settlements are in Caerphilly County Borough. But what happened in between? Was there a change of boundaries between Glamorgan, Gwent and Monmouthshire in 1974? Was there a further change of boundaries in 1996? These are worthwhile facts for your article.

As a provider of information for a worldwide website dealing with family history, I need to be able to trace settlements through the administrations to which they belonged. 1974 was 46 years ago--in family history that is a generation and a half. Looking at it from now (2016) the events of 1974 may seem a long time ago, but in the course of history of a place, it is only yesterday. Please think about those of us who have never lived in the area, but who want to tie details of its geographical evolution together.
