Animal rights
[edit]These sources describe her as a rights advocate [1], [2]. She filed a lawsuit against the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals that was settled out of court. Psychologist Guy (talk) 00:38, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
- Is that "rights" or "welfare advocacy"? MaynardClark (talk) 00:47, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
- The sources describe her as an animal rights advocate, none use "animal welfare", although in her autobiography Wyler did say she was part of the animal welfare movement. There has been confusion over these terms. I have read over Wyler's views, she ended up criticizing animal welfare organizations for not going far enough. I think it is pretty obvious she was a rights advocate but I understand it is not always clear-cut and a minority have argued for both. In her autobiography she claimed "the animal rights business is what I do for my soul". Psychologist Guy (talk) 01:07, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
- Wyler was also involved in the vegetarian movement (she became vegetarian in 1969 for ethical reasons). There is a photograph of her on the front cover of "The British Vegetarian" magazine (volume 2, number 13) published in 1969. I have not seen any evidence she went vegan though.
