Anglicization of Ilin/Ilyin

[edit]

Several very reputable sources have the spelling of Ilya's last name in English as Ilin rather than Ilyin. And, generally speaking, his name has been Anglicized as Ilin for far longer than Ilyin. However, due to Wikipedia's typesetting, I think that Ilyin is probably preferable to Ilin (as Ilin looks like two lowercase L's). But, in the interest of accuracy I think that Ilin should still possibly replace Ilyin as his Anglicized name on Wikipedia. However, I do believe that the transliteration of his name in Russian would actually be Ilyin. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Countdsb (talkcontribs) 00:30, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: Move. We seem to have agreement about the spelling, and that this subject is the primary topic of the two people named Ilya Ilyin. Cúchullain t/c 19:14, 17 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ilya IlinIlya Ilyin – See above discussion concerning the Anglicization of Ilya Ilin/Ilyin's name. As the article has been written using Ilyin I believe that it might be most appropriate if this page was to be moved to Ilya_Ilyin. However, the already exists a page there, which is a redirect to Ilya_Ilyin_(footballer) who is less famous than Ilyin the weightlifter. DSB (talk) 00:43, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not really, not unless something has changed since this comment. One outcome here could theoretically be that we all say the footballer is more important and needs to be moved back, but otherwise, the move as proposed only affects this article. There aren't even incoming links to worry about. The two mainspace links to the base title are referring to the weightlifter. --BDD (talk) 21:08, 14 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Although on second thoughts ru:Ильин, Илья should probably be a base dab page, except that since en.wp is more interested in weightlifters and footballers than modernist philosphers or hero of the Soviet Union pilots :) the Ilya Ilyin (scholar) and Ilya Ilyin (pilot) don't have articles. Sadly, the IWF released a public disclosure yesterday stating that Ilyin failed a retest from the 2012 games. Reliable sources are now running with it as well (BBC). It's probably safe to include a mention of the positive test at this point. Mark Arsten (talk) 17:49, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Now we have the official confirmation and reliable sources for this, it can be added in. I'll lift the protection. --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 18:06, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
