Kalder Jewish?
[edit]- "....Ruth Kalder – an aspiring Jewish actress originally from Breslau (Wrocław).."
This is the first time I've seen it asserted that Kalder was Jewish. If so, then is Monika Hertwig Jewish? I'm surprised that this fact isn't mentioned in the description of this movie as I'm sure it came up. 69.125.134.86 (talk) 17:53, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, it is mentioned at the IMDbPro Review of Inheritance, but only as something of a lingering mystery, (here). — Poeticbent talk 01:44, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
- I removed the claim as not only it was backed by an unreliable source (an IMDB review), but it was an improper synthesis: the reviewer makes no claim to have certain knowledge of her actual ethnicity, but just writes that "Ruth looks Jewish; certainly her features are those that Nazis would identify as Jewish. She had abundant, striking black hair and a prominent nose, which Monika inherited." (link), which makes it abundantly clear that this is nothing more than a personal opinion, and as such, has no place on Wikipedia.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 21:33, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- This is a 'cut-and-paste' discussion from user talk which belongs here... not there

Hi Poeticbent, I partially reverted this edit you made to the article Inheritance (2006 film). Saying that someone is "visibly Jewish" is a weird claim to make about anyone, and most importantly you can't back it up with an user review from IMDB, because that doesn't count as a reliable source by any measure. I also tried to find some evidence that Ruth Kalder is/was Jewish, but I could not find any, so I removed that claim.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 20:34, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- IMDB might not count as a reliable source... if you wish to say so, but the author of the review is an established Jewish scholar. Do you see a difference? Poeticbent talk 20:44, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- If so, it would be strange if this fact appeared only in one of his IMDB reviews, don't you agree?--eh bien mon prince (talk) 20:50, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you're trying to say. IMDB is a place for film reviews, isn't it? The writer is a woman, not a man. Why don't you do your own research? From what I see however, you seem to be pushing a POV here, for whatever the reason. Please reconsider, Poeticbent talk 21:09, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- Whatever happened to assuming good faith? Anyway, your source, other than being weak, doesn't even make the claim that the woman is Jewish, the reviewer merely states that in his opinion she looks Jewish, summarising that by saying that she was visibly Jewish was a mistake. I don't know how the gender of the writer has anything to with this discussion, or what kind POV you think I'm pushing, but if you want to add back the claim the burder of proof is on you here, and if anything I was doing research for you by trying to prove it.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 21:26, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- My reference is solid. Here's a link to scholarly publications by Danusha Goska (I repeat, she is a female writer). All I'm asking is that you reword the statement in such way, as to make it acceptable to you, without deleting the actual mention of the most obvious fact described in the following way (quote): "Most mysterious is Monika's mother, Ruth Kalder. No one in the documentary mentions it, but, weirdly, Ruth looks Jewish; certainly her features are those that Nazis would identify as Jewish. She had abundant, striking black hair and a prominent nose, which Monika inherited. In one photo, Ruth looks very much like Chico Marx. This is not a wisecrack, but a statement of fact. It's more than a little odd that Goeth would select a girl who looked so Jewish, even as he sent thousands of Jews to their deaths for their allegedly obvious "racial inferiority," a racial inferiority that was supposed to be obvious in their dark Semitic features, allegedly so different from blond Aryan superiority." End of quote. Please find a way of saying it properly in here. Thanks, Poeticbent talk 21:47, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- That's a quote from an IMDB review, from an author (male or female makes no difference) who does not even claim to have any additional knowledge about this person's ethnicity. My position on the issue is to follow WP:RS and WP:OR and remove it as an unreliable speculation coming from a film review; if you feel this is unfair you can ask at WP:DRN but I don't think you'll get a different opinion.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 21:54, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
- Please, stop spamming my talkpage with irrelevant policies. Nobody's claiming that the Earth is flat. This is a "film" and "films" are reviewed as "films" in the so-called "film reviews", not? I still can't quite figure out what sort of POV you're pushing, but by the look of your replies this discussion is certainly going nowhere. Poeticbent talk 22:27, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Not "young adult"
[edit]Monika says herself that she found out the truth about her father from Shindler`s List. She was 48 when it came out, an age which can not be described as a "young adult". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.20.137.167 (talk) 00:31, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
