Named after H.

[edit]

Jack Horner has several dinosaurs named after him.

Worth adding at the end of the article, if you know which ones! --Wetman 03:17, 22 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Military Service

[edit]

The article notes that Horner served in the Marine Corps, and then with Special Forces. I don't know of Horner's military background, but "Special Forces" generally means Army Green Berets. The USMC didn't have a dedicated special forces branch at the time (though they did have Amphibious Recon units, which were considered extra-elite in the Corps), and while I suppose it could be possible, I've never heard of a Green Beret unit that was composed of members from other services. I'd suggest that this section deserves a little more research and detail.

Dyslexia

[edit]

The passing mention of dyslexia has been recently suppressed by Anon. User 69.145.242.224. If Horner does suffer from dyslexia, with all his record, it is a disservice to dyslexics to suppress mention of it. Unless it was misfounded in the first place.--Wetman 04:12, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

69.145.242.224 didn't remove the comment on dyslexia, but she did remove the comment about his medicore academic record. Since he apparently couldn't get a job in paleontology until the discovery of the Maiasaura, that's probably worth clarifying at some point. 68.81.231.127 13:58, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)
This is Jack Horner, and just for the record, my first job in paleontology was at Princeton University in 1975, three years prior to the discovery of Maiasaura. I was diagnosed dyslectic while at Princeton University. Achelousaurus horneri is a dinosaur I found that was named for me by Scott Sampson.

"...this country"

[edit]

"he is one of the most well known paleontologists in this country"

Nope, this is not Wiki material. I presume it is intended to mean the United States, but I won't change it as I'm not an American and can't be sure. Jamandell (d69) 00:01, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jack Horner facts

[edit]

Horner dropped out of College. His mind was always different from other students. He wrote, sometimes, backwards. He was the frist person to discover, with his friend Bob, the first person to find a North American dinosaur nest after a person in Montana showed them baby dino eggs. Jack and Bob went to the location where the person found the bones and they found the nest! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.64.78.59 (talk) 00:44, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

John or Jack?

[edit]

The names "John Horner" and "Jack Horner" appear to be used interchangeably both on this article and elsewhere. That needs explanation. RadicalTwo (talk) 04:54, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe. I would have thought it was commonly known that "Jack" is a nickname form of John. Dinoguy2 (talk) 15:56, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently he just got married

[edit]

Is Jezebel.com a reliable source? --Opcnup (talk) 06:25, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

jezebel sources to the Bozeman Magpie ([1]), which may be a local paper, but damned if I can tell from its "About Us" page. FWIW, the article already includes the marriage, sourcing to the BM. TJRC (talk) 19:03, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'd Jack Horner still married to his undergrad student ? Magnolia813 (talk) 22:15, 6 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

They're divorced. I've updated the page.  AJFU  (talk) 05:02, 7 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

controversial hypotheses

[edit]

Could it be mentioned that this paleontologist had authored at least two very controversial ideas, concerning T. rex dietary habits (carrion specialist) and the ongoing 'Triceratops species war' ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.128.96.34 (talk) 11:32, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

According to some sources Horner is now retired

[edit]

Will wait for more sources to confirm, but just a heads-up. Help in finding additional reliable sources appreciated. 142.90.84.6 (talk) 22:16, 5 August 2015 (UTC) (Usually lythronaxargestes)[reply]

Retired from field work, not from paleontology, is what I heard. Dinoguy2 (talk) 10:41, 6 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
