Military career
[edit]I would think that Murtha's military service should get more than just a cursory description. When a well-known public figure has been decorated for valor in combat, it seems like the very least that should be done is to describe the event in which this happened. — Red XIV (talk) 21:36, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
His military history makes little sense. The timing of his personal history in the Marines sounds like it was written by someone who knows very little about the Marine Corps and is pulling random facts together with no coherent detail which casts a lot of doubt on what the article is claiming about his service. What battalion or what regiment did he serve in during Vietnam? What were the details of his two purple hearts? As a Battalion S-2, his likelihood of being in actual combat was slim unless his CP was overrun or was shelled, which is entirely possible in Vietnam during that period, but with who? How was he wounded? In what area of the country? There are many colonels who do not do a lot in the reserves. As a congressman, I'm not sure where he would find the time. 72.82.119.204 (talk) 06:15, 10 October 2016 (UTC)
Racism and sexism in elections
[edit]I was reading Nancy Pelosi's 2008 book (on 2nd term as first and second woman US House Speaker), and stopped by to see the wiki on John Murtha-love the free online encyclopedia. Now, after John Murtha has passed (2010; it's now 2021), I cannot believe that racism statements the gentleman obviously cannot respond to, were placed on his public biography. It is part of the time, as all of a sudden our American Revolutionary War heroes become gay men (upstate New York, 2021-Baron von Steuben Memorial)!
Now, those of us involved in politics "versus academics", are appalled that the statement on wiki also "dissed Hillary Clinton" who 6 years later won the historic vote for US President. Anyone who is claiming racism (1960s concept, discrimination) in an era when entire government offices and corporations are changing to a minority race (i.e., majority voting and 1960s EEO) in a Nation are unaware of the rampant "racial crimes" (all passed as hate crimes against designated minorities by race, 2021) today.
Since I was working on an election study of 2016 (See, Hillary Clinton book What Happened), which reaches back to 2008 and the Obama election (Hillary, US Secretary of State) and forward to VP first woman as a "black and brown" woman in the US (Kamala Harris, 2021 via Joe Biden and his son Beau Biden). Why John Murtha? John goes way back with Nancy Pelosi to the 1980s and elections in the US (via San Francisco, CA) which are public giants like Gov. Mario Cuomo of New York State (1984 national Democratic Convention). However, none of this really belongs on John Murtha's wiki site. ````JA Racino````
