John Gibson SmithJohn G. Smith (poet) Changed to add ".. (poet)" as per 65.94.43.89 GregKaye 17:25, 7 April 2015 (UTC)" – As per content of article citations citations GregKaye 19:45, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That title is already in use as a disambiguation page, so the move would have to be to something like John G. Smith (poet). --Deskford (talk) 13:39, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Should I take it from the above comments that moving the page to John G. Smith (poet) would be completely uncontroversial? -- haminoon (talk) 09:57, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with your reasoning @George Ho: His claim to notability is as a poet and John G. Smith was the name he used when publishing. The references to his full name relate to his private and professional life. Also it appears your second reference refers to a different John Gibson Smith, a reverend who was tried for heresy in 1908. -- haminoon (talk) 22:58, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The first reference probably refers to this guy. The early Pakeha were not very imaginative in their naming. -- haminoon (talk) 23:04, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
"John Smith" is a name that has been used as an example in many things. Usually, it is a name of a nonexistent person whose address is nonexistent as well, like "1234 Avenue St." I didn't know how to explain what a "Placeholder name" is until now. Even "John G. Smith" is also a "placeholder name". --George Ho (talk) 00:08, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Please give justification to your claim that John G. Smith is a placeholder name. GregKaye 00:07, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

65.94.43.89, George Ho Please see:

I could go on.

The requested pagename is in use, and it is not about this person. The proposed title is unacceptable because it is currently not about this person -- 65.94.43.89 (talk) 05:40, 7 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
NOTE the nomination was changed on 7 April 2015 where the target was John G. Smith but was updated to become John G. Smith (poet)

Birthplace

[edit]

The 1851 Scottish census has John G. Smith, aged 37, parochial schoolmaster, living at the schoolhouse in Ednam, giving his birthplace as Carnwath, Lanarkshire. Also there is his sister Agnes Smith, 43, born Carnwath. The 1861 Scottish census has John G. Smith, aged 45, parish schoolmaster, living in North Row, Ednam, with birthplace given as Biggar, Lanarkshire [about 7 miles from Carnwath]. With him is his wife Mary Smith, 35, born Oban, and four children, namely John G Smith (8 years), Mary Ann Smith (5), Jane Graham Smith (3) and James Waddell Smith (1). (non-admin closure)

John Gibson SmithJohn G. Smith (poet) – The subject is mostly known as a poet and John G. Smith is the name he published as. I realise another merge proposal has recently closed but it was derailed by mistaken identities and a botched update to the proposal that left editors not knowing what they were voting for. -- haminoon (talk) 07:12, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
