Requested move 27 September 2023
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: not moved. Consensus emerged against this move. No barriers against proposing this move again when evidence of necessity is present seem to exist. (closed by non-admin page mover) EggRoll97 (talk) 02:07, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
Johnathan Edwards → Johnathan Edwards (rugby player) – It is unclear what, if anything, makes this person any more notable than other individuals of the same name. An anonymous username, not my real name 19:30, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nom (but maybe move to "Johnathan Edwards (rugby union)"). Very, very easy (and plausible) to confuse this name with the near-identical spelling "Jonathan Edwards", which belongs to a plethora of people. I think the safest bet is to redirect the basename of "Johnathan Edwards" to the disambiguation page "Jonathan Edwards". Paintspot Infez (talk) 20:15, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
- Move to Johnathan Edwards (rugby union) to specify code as he plays for the union version including the sevens variant which can be explained here. This move may be of assistance. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 21:09, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
- The parenthetical disambiguator is supposed to be the least specific as is necessary. Unless there is an article of the same name of a rubgy league player, specifying rugby union in the parenthetical disambiguator is unnecessary. Rreagan007 (talk) 15:05, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
- Support as proposed. Rreagan007 (talk) 15:05, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose - This person is Johnathan Edwards, all the others are Jonathan Edwards. That's what sets them apart. Regardless, if this page must be moved, it should be to Johnathan Edwards (rugby union) per every other rugby union biography article that requires disambiguation. – PeeJay 15:23, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose There are no other articles of notable people under this spelling, therefore I believe he should remain on this page and not be disambiguated, however as many have said, it should be (rugby union) instead of (rugby player). Rugbyfan22 (talk) 19:07, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose As said above, there are no other “Johnathan Edwards” to be confused with. RodneyParadeWanderer (talk) 20:33, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. He's the only Johnathan Edwards with an article. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:12, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose. Only person with this exact name. Ambiguity with "Jonathan Edwards" is handled with the current hatnote. Natg 19 (talk) 23:53, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
