Genealogical research
[edit]According to FreeBMD, there were two Joseph Wilbys whose births were registered in England in 1913. Two more were registered in the last quarter of 1912 and none in 1914 so the Joseph Wilby in the article is one of the following -
Dec 1912 Joseph Wilby registered in Wakefield, mother's maiden name Armitage
Dec 1912 Joseph Wilby registered in Bramley, mother's maiden name Goff
Jun 1913 Joseph Wilby registered in Pontefract, mother's maiden name Hill - died at age seven in 1920
Sep 1913 Joseph Wilby registered in Fylde, mother's maiden name Penketh
Two of these Josephs were found in the 1939 England and Wales Register, the JW from September 1913 who was a builder's labourer in Lancashire. I found him in a family tree and appears to have won an MBE. The tree says that he passed away in 1994.
The other was one of the 1912 JWs and was in the RAF at the time. The register gives his birthday as 16th September 1912. The England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007 records this JW as having died in November 1999 in Sleaford, Lincolnshire (where he was living in 1939).
