New sources provide background on Sand's later years

[edit]

Two posts to the Library of Congress's website provide more background on Sands. In particular, note should be made of her declining years, which were spent in asylums in New York State. She apparently suffered a nervous breakdown in 1886, which was attributed to her witnessing the drowning death of a paramour "three years earlier". This would also explain her life as a shut-in during the period she corresponded with Arthur. I do intend to get back to this, but in the meantime, all are free to flesh out whatever details the new sources provide. Allreet (talk) 18:28, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
