1998 Memorial Cup[edit]

Morneau was not a member of the 1998 Memorial Cup winning Portland Winter Hawks!!

Yes he was a member [1][2]

--E tac 04:59, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I found this which says he played a single regular season game and did not receive a ring or get mentioned on the trophy. Thus, he is not a Memorial Cup winner. -- Scorpion 05:08, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image[edit]

This image of Morneau is a too large for article. Can't seem to resize it. I suggest that this image be replaced. --RyguyMN 01:16, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

External Links[edit]

Do we really need 4 links for each public radio & the simply baseball notebook? Seems like link spam to me.

Quotes[edit]

Wait a minute, you want the quotes section but you are unwilling to search for sources yourself and you just want to wait for somebody else to do it? That's not how Wikipedia works. I'll give you a week to find sources and if they aren't sourced in a week, I'll remove the section. -- Scorpion 05:10, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well someone elsed did source them, not me, so apparently that is how wikipedia works. --E tac 19:48, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism and nonsense[edit]

I think we need to put semi-protection. As the current AL MVP, this page naturally attracts plenty of vandalism, and I already had to remove two nonsensical statements in the article. crazyviolinist 03:52, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Life[edit]

I have added a personal life subheading which currently lists his engagement. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Burke27 (talkcontribs) 14:22, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i don't mean to demean the institution, but just what is 'gibbons fairfax winthrop'? college? high shool? but while we're on the subject - his fiancee's alma mater is probably more detail than is justified. Toyokuni3 (talk) 14:22, 2 October 2008 (UTC).[reply]
In the time you spent complaining about it, you could have looked it up on Google. It's a high school in Winthrop, MN. You're probably right, though, that it's irrelevant to the article. It was probably someone from that high school slipping its name into wikipedia to see how long it would last. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 14:27, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Personal Life section needs some serious re-working.--75.72.13.105 (talk) 03:50, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Keeping Stats[edit]

I don't know if anyone was already planning to do this, but if not, I volunteer to make a daily update of the 2008 stats on this page. Burke27 (talk) 02:52, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Personal Life Section[edit]

76.113.149.177 - I don't appreciate the removal of the Personal Life section that I had previously added. It was relevant and accurately sourced. If you had/have some legitimate reason to remove it, you should have the decency to make an entry on this page justifying your reasoning. I've restored this section.Burke27 (talk) 19:04, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agnostic?[edit]

As a result of the "lousy night to be an atheist" quasi-controversy, I've heard the claim that Morneau is an agnostic. Does anyone have a source for this? 155.68.112.71 (talk) 23:51, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First, tell us what you're talking about. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 01:49, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I see. That comment wasn't about Morneau, it was just Rick Reilly being a wise guy when the very publicly Christian-embracing Josh Hamilton was sending ball after ball into the far reaches of Yankee Stadium. Reilly had earlier complained about all the white guys in the contest. This "controversy" wasn't about Morneau, it was about Reilly. I don't know that anything is known about Morneau's beliefs. He's kind of a private guy. Hamilton kind of reminds me of Johnny Cash, whose very public Christianity was part of his own battle against substance abuse. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 02:34, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In short, barring any specific evidence, someone's jumping to conclusions about Morneau. Reilly was only talking about Hamilton. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 02:36, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I know. That's why I'm asking if anyone has specific evidence. 155.68.112.71 (talk) 22:50, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If anybody concluded that from Reilly's comment, they weren't paying attention. He was just making one of his weird jokes. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 23:53, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I really don't think we're on the same page. Somebody told me "it's funny that Reilly would say that, because Morneau actually is an agnostic"; ie, they had prior knowledge of his supposed agnosticism and thought that made the whole thing ironic. I was hoping that somebody else could either confirm or deny this. 155.68.112.71 (talk) 23:49, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Then I reckon you'd have to look for a source. I still think it's just somebody misinterpreting what Reilly said. And keep in mind that it was only the first round, so who knew Morneau be the other finalist? Of course, he is Canadian, and all Canadians are liberal agnostics, right? Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 01:28, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ya, that's aboot right. —Wknight94 (talk) 02:01, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Expanding the article[edit]

In the next few weeks I will try to expand the article, any suggestions for improvements would be greatly appreciated GWST11 (talk) 09:34, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say the Early Years section is excessive. I mean, listing his elementary schools? Usually these sections for athletes include just high school and college, plus sport-appropriate material. It needs to be trimmed. Greg Salter (talk) 18:54, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
