ISBN numbers are not needed (see the guidelines on citations. Wikipedia permits them, but they are automatically transcluded to a page which tells readers where to buy the book or find it in a library. Thus, they tend to act more as an advertisement for selling the book than for providing useful information to researchers and fact-checkers.
