Notability
[edit]A previous version of this article was deleted for lack of notability; see deletion discussion for details. I've resurrected the article as it's the third most wanted article on the wiki (by number of links to it) and I feel that important details - which justify notability - were left out of the pre-deletion version. These include his pre-discovery images of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9, his extremely high number of discoveries, and the unusual asteroids (one Mars-crosser, one Trojan), which together absolutely satisfy the second criteria of WP:BIO: "The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in his or her specific field." The new article is fully referenced and includes that additional information; compare to Wapedia article (copy from just before deletion) Pi.1415926535 (talk) 03:08, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Is this person the subject of significant coverage in multiple independent, reliable sources? ErikHaugen (talk | contribs) 06:01, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Absolutely. In particular, the International Astronomical Union Minor Planet Center - the clearinghouse for all asteroid discoveries and thus a particularly reliable source - has biographical information on Kin in MPC 16395, now linked in the article. Astronomy is a niche field and thus he's obviously not on the front page of the NYT, but he is fairly well-covered, with multiple independent and reliable sources. - It would be great to add more of them to the article. Thanks, ErikHaugen (talk | contribs) 03:13, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
