Biologist

[edit]

Is he not a biologist? Grante, the sole entry I could find about it was in Polish on some minor portal, but if he is, then Category:Russian biologist would be applicable, right? Unless it's just a dipolma he helds and he has done little or no work in this field since his studies? Btw, this English article [1] describes him as a paleontologist.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 13:19, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

He could have graduated from a microbiologist institition, but his notability is due to the sci-fi he published. Unfortunately, I know nothing about modern Russian sci-fi writers, although Vadim Panov is one of perennial favorites in my family. I will ask User:Strannik to add more data on him. --Ghirla | talk 13:32, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

He is paleontologist. Sci-fi writing is his hobby.

Name

[edit]

I will leave the correct name (Kiryl, Kiril or Kirill, and Polish Wiki, for what it's worth, redirects those to Cyryl) to Russian native speakers, but I'd just like to point out that Google for Kirill Yeskov gives 13 hits while Kiril Yeskov gives 2,100.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 13:19, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yandex search yields 9,739 results. --Ghirla | talk 13:26, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Good enough for me. So is Kirill the proper spelling of Cyril, or are they two different names?--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 15:21, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Russian Kirill and English Cyril are two versions of the same Greek name - Kyrillos. --Ghirla | talk 15:22, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Polish titles

[edit]

Titles of some Eskov's books in the text are translated into Polish. Why to Polish, not to, say, Chinese? Are there some hidden reasons? --Vladimir Ivanov (talk) 22:48, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Those translations are not needed, they should be removed. Only original and English titles should be present here. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 20:10, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Name 2

[edit]

A while ago [2]the article was moved from Kirill Yeskov to Kirill Eskov with the following edit summary: "common name, especially in the scientific world (he discovered several new species!". I would like to point out that the the name on his official book release (see [3]) is Yeskov. This is a name used in this interview as well. I'd suggest moving his article back to that variant. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 23:00, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just had the same thought. Since we seem to agree, I'll make the move now, even if a decade has elapsed! Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:49, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Political views

[edit]

I read in an online forum that he criticized the invasion of Ukraine. Any RS on this? Might be worth adding if true. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 13:17, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
