Kreplach for Purim?

[edit]

Somehow Purim found its way into the article on kreplach. Now we have a brand new Purim template, which naturally lists kreplach as a Purim dish. I doubt that this is a valid connection. Claudia Roden mentions kreplach for New Year, eve of Yom Kippur, and the Seventh Day of Sukkot (Hoshana Raba in the article). She mentions neither Purim nor Shavuot. She does not mention Purim. Can someone please find reliable references for kreplach being a traditional dish for Purim and/or Shavuot? If not, then I am afraid these two holidays Purim should be removed from the article on kreplach and kreplach should be removed from the Purim template. --Zlerman (talk) 02:51, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kreplach are boiled Hamentashen filled with meat instead of mohn. To keep the meat dry, the sides are folded over the top. Google has 4,400 hits on purim+kreplach. Phil_burnstein (talk) 22:37, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Reference found. Thanks for the Internet citations, which clarified the Purim tradition to me. --Zlerman (talk) 07:11, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Similar Foods

[edit]

Should 'ravioli' be included as a similar food? It's a dough stuffed with meat or cheese... Paulmmn (talk) 20:16, 22 May 2012 (UTC) Paul E Musselman[reply]

Having grown up in an Ashkenazi home and eaten my fair share of kreplach, I've come to the educated opinion that they are in the same class as dumplings, pierogies, and wontons. I'm afraid, however, that the image depicting kreplach on its wikipedia page suggests that it is a much flimsier, fickle food than is actually the case. For the sake of accurate representation (and kreplach pride), I'd encourage anyone in possession of a more respectable kreplach photograph to replace the current one ASAP. 98.116.22.186 (talk) 18:04, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
