Religious exemption
[edit]I thought the religious exemption only covered employees (its in the Employment Equality Act) and not stuff such as pupils in a religious school? --85.134.141.187 20:23, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
Religious exemption

Foy v. An t-Ard Chláraitheoir
[edit]Would it be appropriate to include the Foy decision under "Marriage and Partnership" or should this be in another article? Also, should the Zappone decision be included?Irlandija (talk) 15:38, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Pre-19th century sodomy laws
[edit]The first paragraph under "Laws regarding same-sex sexual activity" makes it sound as if there was no law against sodomy until the 19th century in Ireland. I believe that is misleading; my strong suspicion is that the English Buggery Act 1533 applied, or that a separate Irish act to that effect did, but I'm not knowledgeable enough on Anglo-Irish law to make the change myself.
Would someone with the relevant expertise please consider adding a sentence to clarify this point? I can scarcely believe that Roman Catholic Ireland before 1861 had no law against same-sex activity. The effect of the 1861 law, btw, was merely to reduce the penalty for sodomy from execution to imprisonment for ten years to life, not to create a new law against it. See The Law in England, 1290-1885. Textorus (talk) 11:29, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Picture
[edit]I have removed a picture that another user added of a Fianna Fail t-shirt a list of legal cases involving LGBT rights. While I appreciate the user's intent in highlighting a list of major changes with regards LGBT rights, I believe this information should be contained within the article itself. Feel free to share your thoughts. Best, O lockers (talk) 16:47, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
- The information may be included in the article, certainly, but deleting the photo is not absolutely necessary—it does not violate any guidelines. However, it may get deleted at Commons because of insufficient authorship information. If the image survives, I think the caption could be utilized for a list of relevant legal changes, one based on the t-shirt's list. Binksternet (talk) 17:16, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Abortion referendum - protection against tests
[edit]I am really concerned that there is no specific protection against prenatal deselection of LGBT pregnancies being mentioned in the whole abortion debate. We should push politicians for this! Lots of research going on in the area, and of course medical testing peeps want to flog prenatal tests for everything and anything. We can't have doctors telling people "There's a 95% chance your son will be gay" - people will make the wrong choices! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.41.129.118 (talk) 08:24, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
- If you have something you want to campaign about, you should talk to the politicians. This page is for discussing the article in question. I will point out that one anti-abortion campaign group is trying to convince LGBTQ organisations to not support abortion rights [1]. Interesting this anonymous comment comes now. ____Ebelular (talk) 11:39, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
"[A]re regarded"
[edit]The sentence, "Attitudes in Ireland towards lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people are regarded as among the most liberal in the world." is strange. It almost implies that a reader would not expect to find that attitudes are liberal. Who is doing the regarding? It is not a sentence one would use for, say, Norway or Sweden. One would simply say, "Attitudes in Norway towards lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people are among the most liberal in the world." Because they are. The same should be said of Ireland. The data shows it to be true. No one needs to "regard" it.
