This page DID need some heavy "cleaning up," and I began by adding categories and linking. It appears to have been lifted directly from an article, but it appears salvageable. If anyone knows what the status of the 2005 criminal case is, please add it. Sundevilesq 18:57, 3 July 2006 (UTC) Got some more details on the Aug. 21, 2005 arrest (from the ESPN article) and the March, 2006 aftermath (from the KFFL article). I have NO idea where the original author got his information from, but there are some gaps (i.e., when did Phillips play for the Miami Dolphins, and for how long?) In addition, I would welcome any help in "balancing" out and sourcing the almost reverential treatment of Phillips at Nebraska in the College Career section, as well as help documenting Phillips' pre-college life/background. • Actually, this page was hardly lifted from an article. When I found it a couple months before you did, it was in a lot worse condition. It was far from being the work of even one "original" author even then, mostly having obviously been put together piecemeal. I did some heavy cleaning up myself, changing the language and adding in some factual material - it was a real mess before that. I'll see what else I can do in meeting your requests.
    • The bottom of the article says: "Former University of Miami alum and current Baltimore Ravens star linebacker Ray Lewis listed Phillips as his toughest opponent." I would be really curious to know what source this comes from. -- McBane, 11:58 p.m., Jan. 19, 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.16.82.72 (talk) 05:58, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Under Comeback to the NFL it states "He had a tryout with the 49er's and the Panthers and eventually signed for the veteran minimum with the Panthers on April 27, 2008." Any source that can be cited for this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.9.184.216 (talk) 12:50, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Did this guy have any redeeming qualities? Like, charity work, good with his kids, anything? I havea hard time thinking of any more reprehensible human being than Lawrence Phillips who played in the NFL. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.125.235.66 (talk) 20:07, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • "The decision to unload Bettis to make room for Phillips would haunt the Rams for several years; while Bettis went on to become one of the cornerstones of the Steelers franchise for the next decade, the Rams would not have a true feature back until Marshall Faulk's arrival in 1999." Haunted for several years when just 3 years later they had a Hall of Fame running back. This seems a bit over-dramatic. 173.74.55.41 (talk) 12:46, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Sammy[reply]

Domestic Violence[edit]

In light of recent heightened awareness of domestic violence in sports, I've added some contemporary references to the paragraph regarding Phillips' domestic violence controversy.

I think the paragraph should be moved into a new section titled "Domestic Violence." The current treatment seems to be more about his 1995 season, when he played and when he didn't, than about the case itself. One or two paragraphs documenting the initial charges, the suspension, the controversy, and the resolution would be warranted. In my current reading of contemporary newspapers, I find that Phillips pled no contest and was to have a sentencing hearing on December 1. But the paper I've been reading (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in google news archives, http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=gL9scSG3K_gC) doesn't have the early December issues. So I currently have no idea how this turned out. Was he exonerated, sentenced to jail time, put of probation, or what? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2610:8:7800:14:20A:95FF:FEC4:244A (talk) 21:07, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing name[edit]

The football player Lawrence Phillips's name can easily be confused with Lawrence Philips (of Metaphone fame) or Lawrence S. Phillips (from Phillips-Van Heusen). Should no objections arise I will file a RM shortly. <<< SOME GADGET GEEK >>> (talk) 15:43, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

College career section convoluted. Were his crimes considered part of this career?[edit]

Why are his legal issues in college commingled with his college football stats?

Look at the pro section where they are separate.

It appears his legal issues were part of his career in college.

Which is correct the college section or the pro section?
