[edit]Shabani is a typical Muslim family name and Dibra has nothing to do with Greece at all. The conversion to ethnic Greek os opportunistic. Piro Dhima instead was born ethnic Greek in Himara, Albania. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.192.252.21 (talk) 23:30, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
The usual POV-pushing again. As per Wikipedia:Verify#Non-English_sources: "Because this is the English Wiki., English-language sources should be used in preference to non-English ones". I've removed the non-english source and replaced it with english-language ones. Moreover, this edit summary [[1]] is unacceptable (wp:or empty accusations that he became Greek to get rich). I feel that the editor of this comment should apologize for posting such disruptive comments about a wp:blp.Alexikoua (talk) 14:01, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, I apologize for my comment on Shabani, although you'd better remind user:Athenean do the same in Talk:Finiq. English language sources should be used in preference to the non-English ones. Now that you found some English sources I'm ok with them. When I made the edit, there were no sources whatsoever. --Sulmues Let's talk 19:29, 18 June 2010 (UTC)
It appears that this bio is again a target of ethno-pov. In case alternative names are added without a decent source I see no reason not to get rid of them.Alexikoua (talk) 20:02, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
- To be honest Luan Shabani is the first Greek of Albania I have ever come across, who has a father with a Muslim name (Idriz), and also has a Muslim last name (Shabani), and happens to be an ethnic Greek. It must be a unique case, but since we have the source of the panhellenic association, we should be all set. --Oshtpunfiksimi (talk) 20:29, 10 April 2014 (UTC)

Reliability of the sources
[edit]I am opening a new section as the above ones are focused more on additions or corrections, or on Sabanis' motives in playing for Greece, which I believe are irrelevant. Instead, I would like to concentrate on the validity of the existing statements of the article and verify the accuracy of the information here. The article claims that he is from 1) southern Albania, 2) born in Korce, 3) of Greek ethnicity. In support of such statements, two sources are currently listed:
- Source 1 - A piece by Albanian sports journalist Besnik Dizdari which does not mention Korce, does not mention him as Greek, and does not claim he is from Southern Albania. Thus, this source has been misused here, and I believe it should be removed, unless the statement is modified to conform to it.
- Source 2 - Brief info from a Greek website news story claiming Sabanis is from a Greek family from Southern Albania. Absolutely no evidence is brought to support its claim, while Korce is not even mentioned at all.
It seems this article has information which fails Verifiability. Alexikoua, since you have shown interest in this article before, and defended its current form, would you please justify the information I mentioned? Thank you! Çerçok (talk) 10:57, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
- It's certainly sourced and verified: An ethnic greek from southern Albania, Sabanis lifted 137.5 kilos in the jerk, setting a new Greek record. (http://www.hri.org/). Hope that's fixed now.Alexikoua (talk) 05:20, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you for the answer Alexikoua. I believe we are now in agreement that there is absolutely no evidence that he is from Korce. I think this detail should be removed from the article. Same for the removal of source one, which is completely irrelevant to his origins. Please let me know if I am mistaken in believing you agree with these two points and why. Çerçok (talk) 07:38, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
- As for the source you provided, it is the same as the one that was already there and it is true it states he is an ethnic Greek from Southern Albania. This news story, however, also presents no evidence in its favor, other than making that statement. As far as I have been able to research, it is the one and only such statement available. If there are others, please do present them. On the other hand, there are plenty of equally unevidenced news articles mentioning him as Albanian. I do not think such articles should be brought here just because of a personal opinion of one journalist or writer, especially on such a sensitive topic. But the same way that I cannot verify and therefore do not consider these articles reliable, I also think that the reliability of the existing source should at least be suspected. Çerçok (talk) 07:38, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply, so we have wp:VERIFY and wp:RS that he is an ethnic Greek and the source is of top value. He is well known in Greece since he lives in this country. wp:FRINDGE has no place in wikipedia.Alexikoua (talk) 10:39, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
- Alexikoua Do you at least agree that his birth in Korce has no evidence? Çerçok (talk) 11:17, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
- In complete absence of any evidence, I removed Korce as his birthplace. If anyone has evidence he was born in Korce, please present it. Çerçok (talk) 12:55, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- I also removed the misquoted Albanian source. Çerçok (talk) 12:59, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
- Alexikoua Regarding the Greek source, it should be noted that this article must adhere to the biographies of living persons policy, which mean that self-published sources are not acceptable. The Greek source offers a piece of information without authorship and without a reference to where the information originates, and it is in fact a self-published source from the Hellenic Resource Institute. Wikipedia policy states that examples of include contents of magazines and newspapers, editorials and op-ed pieces in newspapers (including online), books published by established publishers, and research published in peer-reviewed journals. This source does not fit any of the categories. Çerçok (talk) 13:13, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
