Categories
[edit]Should RPI people be placed into 2 or more categories? For example, Truman H. Aldrich could go in the "Invention & Engineering" and "Politics and public service" categories. (RCX 23:36, 27 May 2007 (UTC))
- Hmm.. I guess we could, but only if absolutely necessary. . The people should be sorted for what they are best known for. However, even if they are not best known for it, being a representative is notable, so it is hard to say. The only other one that strikes me as belonging to two categories is William H. Wiley who was both a representative and businessman. Danski14(talk) 05:54, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Not on list yet
[edit]Other politicians from RPI that are not included on list or RPI category are...
- Clarkson Nott Potter (1843), US Representative from New York, surveyor, lawyer and President of the American Bar Association [1]
- John Hammond, US Representative from New York, Civil War veteran, iron manufacturer [2]
(RCX 00:08, 28 May 2007 (UTC))
- I just added them. (RCX 00:34, 28 May 2007 (UTC))
- Nice work! Danski14(talk) 05:54, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Should these people be included?
[edit]Stephen Van Rensselaer, Founder of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and polititian (A RPI person but which category does he belong in?)(added)

Board of Trustees Members
Harlan Anderson(will not be added)George Campbell Jr.(will not be added)
Other RPI associated people
Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage, Built Russell Sage Laboratory and Russell Sage Dining Hall[3](will not be added)- Ed Jucker, Former Athletic Directors. Not sure if he counts as faculty.
Liah Greenfeld, visiting professor(will not be added)- Miroslaw Rogala, taught at RPI. Not sure if he counts as faculty.
Attended but don't know if they graduated
- Joseph Mabbett Warren, US representative from New York [4]
- Walter Franklin Lineberger US representative from California [5]
- William Aubrey Thomas, US representative from ohio [6]
Faculty
- Daniel E. Button, US Representative from New York ("Staff" at RPI according to source. Don't know if he was also faculty.)[7]
(RCX 16:48, 28 May 2007 (UTC))
- Well the one thing I know for certain is we probably don't need a section for Honorary degrees. For one thing, the list could become quite over-inflated, since I think RPI has given out quite a few over the years, and overall they aren't really that notable. And we wouldn't want people to confuse them with actual graduates. As far as faculty, I think we could rename "Professors and Researchers" to just "Faculty" to make it a little more general. Thats where we could add Stephen Van Rensselaer. Visiting professors aren't really faculty. As far as Sage, I was thinking about including her a while ago, but wasn't sure.. was she also a trustee? But overall, I don't think trustees are usually included in these lists.
- Finally, even if they just attended I think that is ok. I think I read on a different talk page (Perhaps MITs or at Wikiproject Universities ?) that there was a consensus that having attended was the grounds for inclusion. Danski14(talk) 17:55, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I moved Stephen Van Rensselaer and renamed category to Faculty. I removed the Miscellaneous for now since it only includes the trustees. It is shown below. (RCX 18:17, 28 May 2007 (UTC))
- Good.. I was about to do the same. Danski14(talk) 18:21, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
