Seems wrong

[edit]

Some of the games seem to be placed in the wrong category. Please fix them up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nightmare77 (talkcontribs) 06:19, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geese Howard

[edit]

His appearence in Art of Fighting 2 doesn't make the game a Crossover Game because, according to his history, he is also an Art of Fighting character.200.255.166.196 (talk) 10:30, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress

Gears 5

[edit]

Can someone add Gears 5 which includes characters from Terminator: Dark Fate and Halo: Reach? If I try to do it myself, I'll probably mess up the table. --49.192.81.85 (talk) 06:34, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

And there's also MySims SkyHeroes which includes sims based on characters from Dead Space, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Army of Two and Medal of Honor.

And the defunct mobile game Deploy and Destroy which included characters from Ash vs The Evil Dead, Divergent and John Wick. --49.192.186.61 (talk) 09:17, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

And there's the soccer game Academy of Champions: Soccer which includes characters from Assassin's Creed, Beyond Good & Evil, Prince of Persia, Rayman, Splinter Cell and Raving Rabbids. --114.77.142.146 (talk) 09:25, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

And also the game Mutant Mudds Super Challenge which has numerous guest characters, the most famous of which are Abe from the Oddworld series and Shovel Knight. --114.77.234.183 (talk) 11:29, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tony Hawk's Proving Ground has Judy Nails from Guitar Hero.

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock has Arthas Menethil from Warcraft III. --58.105.78.220 (talk) 09:22, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Contra Returns includes John Connor and the Terminator. --58.105.78.220 (talk) 14:38, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In addition to Joker and Queen from Persona 5, the game AFK Arena also includes Nakoruru and Ukyo from Samurai Shodown; Ezio Auditore da Firenze from Assassin's Creed; Ainz Oual Gown and Albedo from Overlord; Prince of Persia from the series of the same name; Geralt and Yennefer from The Witcher. --58.105.78.220 (talk) 10:04, 10 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is anyone ever going to add these? 58.105.78.220 (talk) 06:26, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Smite

[edit]

Smite should be noted on this page as a Religion/Mythology Crossover game. Bringing lore and stories to characters and having them battle and teamup. Doremon764 (talk) 04:51, 17 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Metroid In Fortnite

[edit]

The article should also mention that a Samus Aran skin was originally planned for Fortnite under the condition it was exclusive for Nintendo Switch, to which Epic Games disagreed. I think this was one of the facts brought to light during a lawsuit. Article on skin here; court-related reveal here. ElMeroEse (talk) 01:09, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Scope

[edit]

@Zxcvbnm: Since you brought up this article at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of guest characters in video games, I was looking at it and I'm not so sure what to do. On one hand, it is kind of similar, but also I was thinking it might just be a scope issue. I think if the scope were redefined to games that are inherently crossovers by their nature (e.g. Marvel vs. Capcom, Sega Superstars) then it could work. The article could be retitled to "Crossover video game". I think the problem is that currently, there are a lot of games listed that just include references to other games in the form of cameos or skins. TarkusABtalk/contrib 19:22, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, some of these are just terrible examples. It's up to you guys if you want to AFD or create inclusion criteria for cleaning it up. Honestly, a simple one like "1-2 reliable sources directly calling it a crossover" may cut out a lot of the junk. I know that's helped a lot in similar articles I've cleaned up in the past. Sergecross73 msg me 20:50, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Expanding Crossover (fiction)#Games is probably sufficient for now in terms of the prose side of things. This list is something else entirely. I think that the idea of a crossover in games may simply be too broad and fall under WP:OLIST - over extensive lists, especially since we aren't actually writing articles about the crossovers themselves. The problem with moving it to List of crossover video games is - is that even a notable topic that passes WP:NLIST? ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 21:03, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think it could be. I think we just need to figure out how to refocus it on actual crossovers (Smash Bros, Dissidia) and less of this trivial cameo and bad example stuff. (I've never heard anyone call the original Animal Crossing game a crossover just because you can play some old NES roms in it.) Sergecross73 msg me 21:17, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Another one that commonly trims out weaker examples are requiring every game to have their own article. And in this situation, it could be good to have some sort of "no fan made entries" so we don't end up including every rando on the internet who has created a Sonic/Mario/Zelda/etc crossover game too. Sergecross73 msg me 17:30, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I've decided I'd like to try to take this on. If you could, I'd like to request that everyone holds off on merge/AFD discussions until I'm done. But if you can't wait, so be it. But I think with proper inclusion criteria and better documentation and maintenance, there's hope for this one. Sergecross73 msg me 18:37, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed inclusion criteria

[edit]

Currently, the lack of inclusion criteria has lead to all sorts of poor/unlikely examples, and an WP:INDISCRIMINATE scope. Here's what I wish to start applying to the article:

  1. Each entry requires at least one reliable source directly calling it a crossover. Multiple if its contested as a WP:FRINGE viewpoint.
  2. Following a common WP:CSC, each entry must have its own Wikipedia article.
  3. No fan games, unofficial games, hacks, etc. Part of the noteworthy aspect of crossovers are the work put into overcoming the barriers keeping these things from happening - money, legal rights, philosophical beliefs of companies and creators, etc. The fact that Smash Bros. got the right to use so many different franchises is amazing. The fact that some random guy hacked Mario into Doom is far less so.
  4. No minor cameo stuff. It should be full "major characters interacting with one another". None of this "There was a Mario sprite in the background" or "A character worse a shirt with Mario's face" on it.

I think this would largely be enforceable, and situations that don't can simply be hashed out through talk page discussions. Sergecross73 msg me 18:49, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reorganization

[edit]

Once the article is trimmed up, my plan is to merge them all into one list, rather than these separate ones. I'm also debating what to do with the cancelled ones. They're currently all unsourced, and many of them seem "unlikely" or "speculative" in my experience. May remove them all, but it does seem like there may be some legit ones in there worth documenting too. (ie Tekken X Street Fighter). Sergecross73 msg me 17:05, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the cancelled ones are considered common knowledge in some cases, but if you want only ones that are properly sourced, which sites would you prefer in order for this entry to be eligible? In my Metroid In Fortnite entry, I sourced Sports Skeeda and Game Informer. Would you want IGN, Polygon, newspaper sites like L.A. Times, or directly from the video game publisher itself? This will help us determine if a cancelled section is necessary. ElMeroEse (talk) 05:11, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
WP:VG/S is a good guide for sources to use and not use. IGN, Polygon and Game Informer are good sources. Sports Skeeda is not. Sergecross73 msg me 12:08, 23 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
