New page

[edit]

This is a list of current local leaders: colonial governors (ex.: British governors or French prefects), local heads of government (ex.: Prime Minister of Greenland), autonomous republics or territories leaders (Åland or Karakalpkstan), contested states (Abkhazia, North Cyprus, Somaliland) or important or symbolic administratives divisions (Bavaria, California, Scotland), or all in one like Chechnya. This page has been created this summer (by "86.129.243.203" user), but retired from "Current state leaders".

These titles read very badly. "Commonwealth" and "non Commonwealth" should be unified

[edit]

There's nothing special about British Overseas Territories and non-British Overseas territories as they are *correctly* called. These two should be merged on this page. Also "Commonwealth" are independent countries... Not territories... The Commonwealth

Cleanup

[edit]

Dear fellow editors,

This article is looks like a complete mess. According to the header text this is meant to list completely disparate entities like Chechnya, Karakalpakstan, Bavaria and Guernsey. There is a basic division which might serve well as a guideline as to what to include in the list and what not is: dependent territories versus subnational entities. The basic difference being that autonomous (subnational) territories are counted towards the national territory of the state and are autonomous 'within' the state, while dependent territories are like possessions that often become independent over time (or integrate fully into the 'mother country'. And of course neither of the above territories have anything to do with such contested territories as Kosovo (or Somaliland, or Western Sahara, etc)!!! So I propose to keep this list to dependent territories. Including all the autonomous territories within all the states would make this list impractically long (and basically inconsistent). Among the French overseas territories there are significant differences with regards to their constitutional status, so the basic divide there is whether a territory is 'overseas territory' or 'overseas department', the first group in are dependent territories and the latter are part of France proper. Furthermore I also don't see any sense in separating Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth entities - this seems completely arbitrary. Please add your thoughts! The result of the move request was: Moved to List of leaders of dependent territories, but this one needs a lot of work and may well be an AfD candidate Mike Cline (talk) 19:31, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

List of current local leadersList of current heads of state and government by dependency or List of current heads of state and government by dependent territory218.250.159.25 (talk) 19:14, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Local" is way too ambiguous. Its scope is dependencies. 218.250.159.25 (talk) 18:10, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
To be frank, I can't even tell what the scope of this article is supposed to be. Powers T 01:12, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dependencies, aka dependent territories. 218.250.159.25 (talk) 13:10, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with LtPowers and I'll go further: The lead doesn't currently establish that this article has any use or purpose whatsoever. The article scope badly needs clarification, and this proposed move doesn't seem to help. At least link to dependent territory in the lead if that's an important part of the scope. And if the scope can't be usefully defined, AfD. Andrewa (talk) 17:28, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Pretty much the same list, with only layout and formatting differences. --Nevéselbert 01:15, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dependent territories of Pakistan

[edit]

Ytpks896, Pakistan has never incorporated Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan into the country, and the following Wikipedia articles describe Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan as "dependent territories."
