I’m concerned by one of your recent reversions on this page. This is a BLP biography of a politician, I am confused why you consider ‘internal political movements’ to not be relevant to the biography. Could you please explain your reasoning ?
It’s very relevant to this person’s career what their ALP factional background is. This is often determinative of a person’s political stances in Australia. I’m unsure why you would consider ‘internal politics’ to not be relevant to this person’s page. Additionally am confused as to why you consider this person’s marriage to the son of a former premier, and ownership of a large mansion, to not be relevant to this biography. I am confused as to why you describe that as ‘social media’. Thanks
Could you please discuss here instead of merely removing large chunks of well-sourced information. Such edits are arguably not constructive. Thanks
Happy to discuss, but extensive personal life information and internal factional issues, regardless of sources are WP:NOT Shumway (talk) 09:39, 12 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Then indeed let’s discuss. The detail of a marriage to a prominent political family, and the political involvement this person, is not WP:NOT in my view. I do not believe the detail to be excessive at present.
There are multiple parts of this biography that you appear to wish to delete, and i’ll list them here separately:
(1) The factional background of this ALP politician
(2) The details of this person’s marriage to Ben Gray
(3) The early life circumstances of this person, including details regarding their upbringing
(4) This person’s parliamentary register of interests
Among other things.
I’d prefer to keep the above, but are there any that you’d like to reduce in length for WP:UNDUE reasons ? Or any that you think might be worth keeping ?
I note that the above topics are typically included in political biographies. We shouldn’t shy away from including content in a WP biography merely because it is ‘personal’ or would make the subject uncomfortable. If it’s been the subject of public reporting or sources, then it ought to be included, while keeping in mind this site’s conventions regarding weight and style.
